Ev farce!

For some reason Mankind (oops already strayed from the preferred terminology) has always sought some sort of religion to follow.
Seems to me "man-made (oops, there I go again) climate -change" is just the latest iteration. Yes the climate changes, it always has.
From a friend of mine...

"The high middle ages were all about the medieval warm period which was then followed by rapid transition into the Little Ice-age. Famines and plagues thereafter ensued (for some reason, plagues usually come with rapid cooling of climate)... Historically, no detrimental effect to civilization or ecosphere has ever been observed with transitions from colder to warmer climate. It is the coolings that are catastrophic.

Warming means a wetter and more fertile planet*. I can't stand climate idiots who envision that warming will "turn Earth into Tattoine". Quite the opposite in fact. Desertification was at its peak during glaciation periods with lowest CO2 levels and lowest global temperatures. More CO2 means more plants, warmer planet means more evaporation, more moisture in the air means more thermal inertia which stabilizes weather and evens out climate across the globe. In essence, the complete opposite of everything the mouth-breathing climatists believe"

* Surely this benefits a burgeoning global populace? Warmer weather= more food?
Yes maybe plant disease will increase but given the widespread adoption of GM that is not necessarily a factor of concern?

As has already been said on this thread, it is more about control, along with the deliberate and ongoing creation of division - "divide and rule" - than it ever is to do with concern for our environment.
It is imo "anti-humanism" at work.

They’re bringing in the ev car scheme at work which I was pretty excited for as I love evs but bloody hell they are punchy for something decent enough to put anything larger than a spaniel in. Not sure financially there’s going to be much difference over two years but will dig a little further. Mind you the scandalous cost of the hilux service tomorrow might change my mind. 😂

Theyve been trying to roll out EV charging points that are built into kerbs that are then tapped into the DNO supplies for street lights.

Its a pretty slow process and behind schedule I believe.

I still dont think it will happen.
When I stayed in London near Baker St they have various juice points on the kerb for Tata electric cars but there weren't many.

Switching field for personal transport will have zero impact on climate change as we simply can’t make enough clean electricity and the emissions created to mine all of the lithium and cadmium for batteries, plus those used to create the charging infrastructure as well as the cars simply outstrips the ‘zero’ emissions from the cars themselves.

Want to make transport greener? Then drive less and where you can use public transport.
Simples!

We have that using salary sacrifice - essentially my maths told me if you are a higher rate tax payer or you do a lot of personal miles, and the alternative is a high mpg motor, it’s cost effective.
I got one as I had to replace my ageing Chrysler 300c. Got a Kia Niro, it’s pretty nice to have a new car and all in costs not much more than running the Chrysler. Also only needs servicing in 20,000 miles, never need to go to a petrol station and spend on random items.
But would I pay nearly £40k for something akin to a vwgolf? No way, it works out because of the tax break and paying a monthly fee to effectively hire it.
On the charging point, we are able to plug in overnight and tell the machine only to charge when there is excess energy in the grid. Doesn’t cost us less at the moment, but it’s nice to know. Some nights it doesn’t charge at all but just plug it in every time.
The Brighton wind farm comes into a substation close to us and over powers on windy nights, so for now whilst we don’t all have Evs that’s a good use of the power.
I like the practicality of it and am happy with it, works for us but wouldn’t for everyone at the moment.

That’s good to know. I don’t do a lot of miles really as I work from home but with a cheaper commute I would go into the office again. I was trying to understand. The impact on pension contributions as I believe it decreases them considerably. The original plan was to move from having two nice cars in the house to one very nice one as my partners new job is round the corner from my office so we could go together. Quite fancied a Porsche Taycan shooting break. Well a man can dream 😂

For me, no effect on my pension but I can see a scenario where because it is salary sacrifice your employer may not pay their contribution on the amount you sacrificed.
The monthly fee is very high for what we have and only worth it because of the tax break. Apparently the company we use - Tusker - isn’t the cheapest.
