Has anyone any experience with this?
What was the returns like compared to poults?
obviously would released in separate pens to poults but could also have there own crop / drive if worth while. Just curious as cost is lower but with same release time.

I've had no experience with ex-layer red legs, but if they're anything like the poults I tried once they will probably be a waste of time! Once released they went on a tour of the South Devon countryside and were never seen again!

If it was viable then it would be common practice, Those ex layers will have had very little chance to fly until you let them out, pout's will be on the wing from day one building up their strength.
"you have to learn to walk before you can run"

No personal experience but a friend who keepers on a small shoot near the one I work on tried with ex layers. He described the experience akin to throwing money away as they walked off.

Ex lay red legs have never been out in the wild as they are over wintered poults unlike ex lay pheasants wich are caught up birds poults are a better bet if you have the ground
