Expanding ammunition

Hi all is it correct that there is a proposal to change expanding ammunition fron s5 to s1 in parliament?
would this mean we could then purchase expanding bullets by the post for reloading?

I like this bit -

“(8)
Where an individual has applied for the renewal of a certificate before its
expiry but the chief constable has not, as at the date of its expiry,
determined whether or not to grant the renewal, the certificate is to
continue to have effect until the application is determined.””

- although, this may give the police a 'get out' if your renewal takes an excessive amount of time!

You can purchase expanding bullets by post already.

Just order from a supplier in the EU and they get sent to your door - provided your FAC allows you to possess them and you don't exceed whatever quantity you are allowed.

Also has the potential to save you some money or obtain products that may not be available in the UK.

Thanks orion I wasn't aware that you could purchase expanding bullets from the EU

Alpin hunting have worked well for me in the past - although it's worth sending an email before ordering to confirm the items are actually in stock!

Obviously no additional import duty or vat to pay as they are in the EU, and the package turns up on my doorstep about 10 days later - and I mean on my doorstep as that's where the postman leaves the package containing these super dangerous, controlled and prohibited items that the rest of the world classifies as inert lumps of metal.

I've used alpinhunting too, one good transaction and one didn't arrive. Recently used arms24.com and worked flawlessly and their communication was superb.

I've heard that Alpinhunting have been a bit inconsistant from others, but I've had no issues with them - an email to confirm stock before ordering might be in order though. ;)

Strobl are another outlet that looks reasonable. I did make an enquiry with them but they were out of stock of exactly what I wanted at the time and were totally honest about the expected scope of delivery. I'll try them again when the time comes.

I do like the amendment to allow your current certificate to run on indefinitely whilst the police have your application languishing in a tray that looks like the Empire State Building. I agree that it may well be seen as a get-out clause for the police to take as much time as they want, but, frankly, if it takes them 5 years, where's the problem? Wouldn't help much with applications for grants or variations though.

And don't think the Polis came up with this themselves - Our shooting organisations (that apparently do nothing) have been lobbying hard to get this clause include:tiphat:

I thought that all projectiles, that is bullets or bullets heads(regardless of being expanding ammo or not), were fully controlled items that required sale or release from an RFD in the UK? So I cannot see how they can be legally received by post? Reloading Solutions for instance record all of my bullet purchases on my FAC as if they were live rounds. Please tell me if I am wrong.

Western woodsman if you purchase from the EU they can be sent to you through the post used to be the same from the States unlike buying them at home where it must be a face to face transaction crazy but true

You're wrong. :D
There's no restrictions on non expanding bullets.

only expanding are controlled projectiles. (Let's not go into explosive projectiles!!!)
only live rounds or expanding projectiles need to be put in your certificate by the vendor. Not non expanding projectiles.
if you look at somebody like Henry kranks website you will see that non expanding can be sent by post but not expanding.
if someone sends expanding from overseas then they have not broken the law in their country of origin, neither have you as you did not post them.

I use STROBL for all my 8x57IR. Can't recommend them enough.

The law on this is absolutely nuts. Can also get a firearm couriered to your door without RFD from the EU. DPD would have left my drilling at the local halfords or in my porch if I'd wanted!!

As has been said above, happily you are wrong on a number of points. :D

I'd also add that there is no requirement to enter expanding bullets/projectiles you receive from a non-UK source onto your own FAC - nor is there a mechanism for you to do so as you have not supplied them to yourself - the only entry you should make on your own FAC is to sign it on receipt, as per condition 1.

And before the thread deviates into the old chestnut of having to have ammo entries on your FAC to 'prove' usage, no, in this example it would only 'prove' that you can make an entry on your FAC. ;)
