FAC air and heavy .22 pellets

I thought I’d just share this. I picked up a tin of jsb jumbo monster 25.39 grain (redesigned) .22 pellets a while back, but it wasn’t until today that I got around to trying them out. My normal 18.1 grain jsb’s that I usually run at around 35ft lbs are brilliant all rounders, and I don’t see much need to change. Although I use jsb rs 13.43 grain for squirrels on feeders running at around 24ft lb. Anyway, I turned the power up and paced out 35 good strides and basically, five went through the same .22 sized hole. Not a lot of distance for fac air, so I decided to pace a further 35 out to 70 paces. Even in the slightly breeze I was more than impressed with the five shot group and I was able to use the first cross down on the reticle and it was spot on for elevation. They were running at 850fps mv over the chrono, just over 40ft lbs. I’d recommend these for anyone with an fx as the stx barrel just seems to love these things. This group was achieved without really trying, and not in still air, so they could do better than this. Not bad for a waisted pellet at that distance.

In my non-FAC but regulated .177" BSA Scorpion T-10 I use Bisley Magnum pellets that are heavy for calibre weighing 10.65 grains in weight as they also deliver best accuracy better that JSB Exact in fact.

Nice shooting.

Pals and I did a test a few years ago with a batch of different make pellets and had similar results in 30/40ftlb FAC BSA R10, Thebeon Rapid 7 and Daystate Wolverine using the JSBs.

We all settled on the excellent 18.1gr.

Good result

Out of interest have you tried the fx hybrid slugs which are 22g of the top of my head? Heard good things about them with there BC being very good and expansion a plus for hunting

Yes, the 18.1 grain are a brilliant all rounder for fac.

I’ve used the H&N hp slugs and jsb knockout slugs, both shoot well out to 100 yards and beyond with good accuracy in the stx barrel.

Following on from your thread above, I have just ordered a test /sample pack of their JSB Jumbo Beast pellets at 33.95gn just to see how they go. I had real issues with this gun, after having it up rated, as it could not handle the lighter pellets with any consistency, when advised to use Bisley Magnums at 21.40gn the proof was on the paper. Hence the trial with an even heavier projectile. I am interested to see what the result will be?

BC.

Please post your results. What gun is it, and what power level are you running?

UPDATE'
Pellets arrived today, Out of the blue my small bore rifle club secretary phoned me so I was able to race down to the range and try out the 33 grains. One of the gun shops I was viewing on line selling these pellets stated due to their size, an issue of magazine fit may be a problem with some rifles. Mine being one! A Rapid 7 mk1 bought as a standard 12ft lb, Now up rated to FAC. 30 ft lb. Used the 25yd out door range,
Loaded and took first shot,a bit low at 7- o- clock, 2nd hit was a bull, then next 3 were left and a bit spaced? Disappointed to say the least. Afterward I loaded the mag with seven 21gn BISLEY MAGNUM. I will stick with them as all went through the same hole.
There are 44 left in the bag if you want to cover cost of posting to try them?

At 30ft lb they’re going to be running at less than 650fps so maybe they won’t stabilise? Probably need about 60ft lbs to get them up to around 900fps being 33 grains. I think I’ll stick with the 18 grain jsb’s mainly, although the 25 grain are good at 850fps/40ft lbs. I’ve found the 13.43 grain are most accurate at around 24ft lbs. Depends on application. If I need any more than 40ft lbs I’ll use a rimfire. Thanks for the report 👍
