FAC Air rifle Vs .22 Rimfire

A question to you experienced Fac air rifle owners following a "pub" chat. Both zeroed at 75 meters which would have the most wind drift and drop at 100 meters a .22 rimfire with 40gr cci subs or a Fx Impact with 37gr slugs at 77 ft lbs ?? Thanks

a Ballistics calc will give you full exact answers,

But a 40gr Subsonic will have a mv 1050 fps with about 100 ftlbs of energy.

The 37gr slug with 77ft lbs will have a mv of about 950 fps.

Thus given that the 22rf bullet is slightly longer with a slightly better BC with a higher velocity it will drop less and less affected by wind.

The 49g CCI subsonics will drop by 4.91 inches at 110 yards (100m)
Based on the CCI 40g subsonics I'm using, the MV is 1070 and the BC is 0.120
The slugs will drop by 6.49 inches at the same range
The BC for ZAN 37g slugs is 0.102 and with 72ftlb muzzle energy, the MV is 935fps
Based on a scope height for both guns of 2.75 inches

Cheers

Bruce

Given the limitations of .22lr ammunition in terms of consistency, unless you're using match-grade loadings as offered by Lapua and Eley, I would be less concerned by the loss of a few ft/lbs than may be attributed to air-power.

The point being that even non FAC-rated air-rifles are now more than capable of producing 10-shot ragged hole groups at c50-yards that most 22lr owners can only dream of. Unless using the aforementioned match-grade ammo.

Most shoot 37 gr slugs at 975- 980 fps and will be better than .22 subs at longer distance
Not so at all sorry . That depends on what ammo you buy for the 22 LR folks are shooting the new Lapua long range ammo to 600 yards and getting pretty good groups .
If a person is willing to put down PCP money on a RF they can be pretty sure going to get a good gun . Personally I like CZ 452 varmints , we have two and they both shoot incredibly well - just as long as they are fed high quality ammo . Too many folks scrimp on RF ammo
Both of those .22 Cz set us back around £150 each and i just breathed on them a little in the workshop.
An old semi auto with an old far East scope that has never been cleaned in years , screw threads done in a vice and 1/2" die by hand and then fed bulk ammo is really not the benchmark rimfire
