Fac air rifle opinions

Theoben rapid is a decent fac air rifle I’ve shot a few always been acurate killed bunny’s easy at 90 yards shooting around 32 ftlbs

I'm considering an fac air rifle for pest control, to replace my 22/17hmr, rabbit crow etc my question is simple what do people think is the calibre to go for 22 or 25, I already have a 177 sub 12 for indoor/ closer range work. R
Don't replace! they all have a place . Every FAC should have a 22 LR no matter what else is in the cabinet , PCP generally will suffer maintenance quirks and ammo . A 22LR will work with very little trouble and really you don't need to spend much at all and there is no charging " issues " etc. £150-£300 is all you really need to spend
Personally i say 12ftlb airgun , 22LR , 223 rem , 243win and you can do everything anywhere with the exception you might need to go a bit larger that 243 if you want to go for Boar . If you didn't need a deer rifle at all ? drop the 243 because the 223 can do everything below it .
FAC air is more popular than it should be , simply because most folks start with the sub 12ftlb airgun . Paying out for a real good PCP and charging kit for killing ferals and rats and a few bunnies ?
Just saying like

Like I’ve pointed out many a time, FAC air will do a lot more than .22lr and I have both . Some of these FAC air can achieve 200 + ftlbs . I know someone who is running.25 44gr slug at 99 ftlbs with pin point accuracy past 100 yards

I have an FAC RTI Prophet using jsb 22 exact monster redesign diablo 25.39grns, running around 45ftlbs. Had my RTI for 3 years never missed a beat and deadly accurate to 70yds.
also a bullpup design so helps in hides and makes for a compact rifle. Its very useful in sensitive areas where noise can be an issue where I can't use my 17hmr or 22lr.

Lots of good info on this thread!
Do any of you have experience with the agt vixen in fac form?

Thanks.

I have had more than a few of both. What your saying is a 44 grain from an airgun is in some way better than a 22LR firing pretty much the same projectile - How the heck does that work then . There is a massive amount of 22lr ammo abound the entire globe and ammo of lots of different power levels , price ranges etc . There is a big difference in what you feed them and the performance you require . Lapua for instance even make some specifically made for up to 600 yard long range use ! BTW its sub 1000 FPS !!! How ? Don't know , high quality with a high cost i Guess!
you can also get very low velocity Ammo suited to short range pest control inside buildings / barns .
A reasonable 22 could certainly be found under £200 or cost. I have a couple of CZ Varmint bolt action rifles personally . I once put 9 through a single 22 size hole at 100 yards ( oh so close to ten ) Witnessed by dozens of other shooters. However the assumption was something had gone totally wrong after the first shot ( i was testing a scope ) so i got a guy to spot for me into the sand when that strike laned in the sand spot on We realised . That was with the old Lapua subs that had the Rat on the box . I know one Landy who could likely do that to order with her comp gun without a magnifying scope
Folks like PCP , some like the tech side of things of using air , some gravitate from 12 ft lb airguns . But the fact remains that as good as FAC has got to today , its all already be done by those who walked this path before ( and more ) using 22 RF and if you choose a 17 HMR
Nothing wrong with air but please ... Dont mix up facts in your enthusiasm for your love of the PCP airgun , Check out what folks globally are doing with the RF . Go spectate when the Hard core are shooting their peep sighted comp 22RF , the Lady i talk of here travels to Germany just to sort and select her ammo batch and has a real massive allowance to hold .
I like all rifles but no longer bother with PCP . Personally i can do without the quirks that occur with them and the fact that I do not think they are nearly as tough in the shooting of quarry in harsh weather
