Fake Meindl desert fox boots?

Try 511 boots. I bought a pair none waterproof for Africa. They are really comfy. Perfect for summer and not heavy at all.

US sizes are usually .5 of a UK size bigger. But individual manufacturers vary a lot in my experience.

Try the Alt-berg web site they make light weight boots. Made in north yorkshire.

Most Alt-Berg boots are made in Italy. Link.

I know this because when I tried to buy some (early in lock-down) they told me that I'd have to wait up to 6 months for a delivery to arrive from (equally locked-down) Italy.

Are there such a thing?

I have recently purchased via Vinted a pair of Meindl desert fox boots which from initial appearance were in good condition.
However, after one dog walk the sole on both boots have disintegrated and come away from the boot. There is no way to repair them as the cushioning in the sole has disintegrated resulting in them being chucked in the bin.

This is the second time this has happened and my mate tells me that they are probably fakes!

it is really annoying as these are incredibly comfy, lightweight boots that I use for summer stalking.

I would like to buy a brand new (7.5 UK) pair but it does not look Meindl sell them anymore.
Any suggestions for similar boots?

Arguably all Meindl are now ‘fake’ given that production has moved to China.

I’ve tried 3-4 pairs since the move happened, and they’ve all been awful.

I had anotrher pair that were box fresh that I purchased earlier this year ready for the summer. I had a look at the weekend and the same is about to happen to my other pair!
Wont be buying these again!

The boot shown in the OP was phased out of issue over ten years ago - the issue boots including deserts boots are now all a mid brown. The plastic I’m afraid on old stock boots can and does break down. Get a pair of Iturri brown desert boots from a reputable surplus provider.
Is it Iturri who got the MOD contract from Meindl for Desert Boots? I heard they are good, do you know what the sizing is i.e. 9M I assume is 9 medium width? Do you know what #3 means also? Thanks

I had a brand new issued pair do this to me. They’re crap. Lowas are so much better. The new Iturri issue Dessie boots are shite too. Never known boots designed to help keep your feet cool do the complete opposite so well.

Is that what the current issue Desert boots are, Lowa? Thanks

The current issue desert boot is an Iturri. Boots are a very personal thing. What suits one doesn’t suit another which is why the MoD offer a couple of choices for most uses/conditions. You try them on and take your pick.

The old ones are Lowa Elite if you can find a pair. The current basic issue are Iturri are like a brown more padded knock off of the Lowas. Not bad for UK summer weather to be fair to them, but 40+ heat I wasn’t a fan. Lowa Zephyrs are also issued desert boots but much pricier than Iturris, if you’re buying them

Thanks, I have a pal still serving who just echoed that exactly

Many thousands of those boots were used in Afghan so they’re probably a few years old now. Sadly, that means that I probably have a pair sat in my cupboard and taking up space that are also good for nothing. :banghead:

Yer, I guess the point of interest is - three years in a damp Stores will rot a Meindl desert boot sole but not on a Lowa. My mate said some guys had Lowas from the start also so they could be 15 years old mind..

I have managed to get a pair of these and like them - they are a little heavier than the Meindl one but the grip is good and they are well ventilated. Lets hope these last!!

Plastic stuff often has a plasticiser added to it make injecting easier/smoother for the production process this then breaks down with age.

I love my Desert Fox boots. Like wearing gloves on my feet.
I've had 4 pairs.
However 1 pair did have the soles detatch, they were old stock and cheap so I cant complain.
I buy new boots from Deutschland now.
They are very very quiet boots so stalking is a dream in them.
Where I live the gravel is like ball bearings and very noisy.
