I see my local Costco has ditched highland game for farmed venison,
has anyone else seen the same ?

I’m surprised more outlets haven’t gone down the farmed route.
You have 6 very different types of meat all being marketed under the same banner.
With the farmed product its either red or fallow and of predictable quality.
Wild venison marketing to an uneducated public is challenging.

Wild venison maybe £1.60 per Kg farmed maybe £4… I asked someone why he said farmed venison is more consistent same age of cull same feed same everything….. more boring but sellable?

With farmed there is a stringent chain of custody, you know the age of the animal, when it was slaughtered and where, all traceable.

Not surprised, with Highland Game being FLS's dead deer dumping ground, all the above points which are vital for a consumer's health are just a big ? :fib::scared:

Its the simple financial sense, a supermarket can call a supplier and say can I have 300,000 fallow or Red deer loin steaks @ 150g and its done ✅

The supply and traceability chain is simply not there in shot deer!
