Has venison been on the telly recently?

Not got a TV myself, hence why I'm asking.

Just wondering if venison has featured prominently recently on any foodie programmes or been promoted by any celeb chefs?

I've had a massive surge in demand for venison over the past month. Struggling to keep up to be honest, and rapidly running out of deer.

Interested to know what might have caused this.
Also interested to know if anyone else has experienced the same?

Don’t watch much myself but Have watched a bit of master chef though and always a few venison recipes on that.

A lot of top end restaurants are switching to game and venison in particular because of the big increase in the cost of beef and struggle to justify £120plus for say a cote de boeuf
Been in the news a fair bit over the last month or so

As mentioned above, with the recent hike in beef prices because of the dry summer I saw where resteraunts are trying alternatives to beef, and venison was specifically mentioned.
Certainly I've had some good catering orders recently, including one pub that has put in an order for a weekly delivery from late September right through until Christmas.

But it's the domestic orders that have really shot up, which is why I was wondering if it had been featured on a popular show?
I've just come in from the larder now, having been skinning a pricket ready to butcher tomorrow. I have pre-orders for every part of it, including the liver and kidneys.
It's gone crazy!
I'm not complaining, but I do wish we had more deer in north Wales!

TV-wise, it’s quite quiet on the cooking front. Masterchef is currently not on (professionals next IIRC) and Great British Menu has yet to start. Honestly, I think @sh1kar and other have it spot on - was staggered to see the price of Sainsbury’s fillet steak yesterday - fair rocketed in price. I’d hate to imagine what Waitrose charge - cannot afford to set foot in there routinely. I fear Aldi and Lidl will be taking over…….

Price of beef on the bone may have increased granted but the robbing bar stewards in the big grocery stores are just adding on their extortionate mark up without really caring what effect this has on price. Hence the food price inflation.
Country has gone mad with making a pound & lost sight of common sense. Not sure how it’s all gonna end - how depressing, sorry😳
Keep smiling 🤣🤣🤣

Beefsteak in Aldi under 9 quid but for how much longer is debatable.
The odd rant on Instagram by various chefs about its ridiculous price increase.
But I'm guessing its not filtering down to the farm gate.

Cattle prices are high at the moment, to be fair, which is good for some farmers, but it's hitting the farmers who buy in cattle now for overwintering. By the time they sell those expensive cattle in a year's time, the price of beef will most likely have dropped again and they'll lose money on them.

I was talking to a farmer recently and he was telling me how much calves were making, prices at an all time high. I remember my dad buying calves in the 70s for 50p (that's not per lb, it was for the calf).

That's great for the farmers who's business depends on selling calves, but not great for those farmers who's business depends on buying calves.
That's one of the reasons I've more-or-less given up keeping cattle. The purchase price of the calves I used to buy for rearing is now too high, together with massive increases in other input costs (feed, fertiliser, rent, etc).
The only way to make it pay is to deal in big numbers and take a small margin on each one, but I simply wasn't set up to accommodate expansion. Hence sold most of my cattle and got deer instead. Now I control my prices 👍

Its also seasonal. I really struggle getting people to buy whole (roe and muntjac) carcasses through the spring and summer. Come October, and I struggle to keep up with the order list.

Yes, I've been doing venison for a few years now, so have come to recognise the seasonal fluctuation in demand, but the current spike exceeds my previous experience of the usual autumnal rise in interest.

It's nice to see and maybe it'll improve the going rates from Game Dealers?
Maybe all the promotion of Venison as a low fat, tasty, healthy option is getting through to people at last - and I suspect there will be a few folk lining up Venison for the festive season for a change from the usual bland Turkey.
