Favourite copper?

Cheers for the help folks and will watch the comparison.

Does anyone feel the yew tree TLRs kill better or are too messy vs the American stuff which I feel sound like you almost want to hit a bone?
TLRs are superb - but don’t send them fast!

It helps to think of them in the way you would something like ELDM. Great at long distance or low speed, devastatingly destructive at high speed.

I have shot copper (Barnes TSX) in 300 WM at mild velocities over the last 15 ish years they were doing around 2700fps.
Perfect round for me - little carcass damage. Due to the REACH powder changes, I’ve now reloaded same bullets at 2900fps. Very accurate, and why would I need to go faster ? I’m hoping they continue to deliver clean kills with minimal damage.

I have reloaded 6.5x55 using Fox Classic Hunter at around 2800fps, they do well too out to 200/250m. I don’t get opportunities above that range where I am.

The .308 I’ve yet to try out live game, but using the Fox Classic Hunter I’ve got an extremely accurate round doing about 2600fps. I’m aware I could push it a bit faster, but I’d rather have accuracy than speed.

I like the Fox ammo, and will continue to use it.

I should also point out that none of those bullets are fragmenting - I have never found bullet debris in the meat, and any recovered bullets have been 100% intact (or very close to).

Thanks folks. It sounds like Barnes or Fox is the way to go. Certainly I haven’t heard anything negative about the fox bullets? They se to suggest a 130 grain should be fine.

The power blades in the 6.5 may be another option going by the feedback here and from what I’ve read. Just my .270 didn’t like them.

Any more opinions greatly appreciated

Fox are really consistent and effective, but fly like bricks.

Woodland or short range. If you have to shoot at range or in strong wind, the drift gets a bit challenging

Inspector morse
Got there before me @Dave_45 .......surprised it took until post number 4 before that came out ...

Firstly, I am furious that because I was driving I was way too late to hijack this thread with the 'Favourite Copper" gag.

I was going to go with...

Younger readers may have to ask Grampa - especially when some of you don't even know who Morse was!

Speaking of which.

Fun fact in ration to that series.

The Inspector Morse theme tune spells out the name "Morse" using Morse code in its musical motif, a clever device created by composer Barrington Pheloung as an "in-joke".

I was expecting you to post this (or maybe Stratford Johns/ Frank Windsor, Softly, Softly )

I will stick with Helen Mirren :p

Thanks folks. There’s a strong barnes vote here. Funnily enough I’m sure I’ve heard quite a few podcasts list them as a choice alongside swift A frames in big cals for buff so they must the reliable.

Is the supply of them pretty steady here? Nothing worse than starting something and then finding you can’t get it

Maclouds at Tain

Or

Reloading solutions

The prices will be within a gnats cock, it’s basically just checking the availability of the caliber and weight that you’re after.
