Favourite films - and why.

"Days of Heaven"

Wonderful cast
Exceptional cinematography
Beautiful scenery
Ennio Morricone soundtrack (plus some Saint-Saens)

If only the story line was a little bit stronger......

Days of Heaven.webp

Snatch... I love gangster films, especially funny ones, boxing and dogs and have dealt with and known some traveller's along the road of life.

Brad Pitt was awesome in it, nailed the accent and body language to a tee.

Leon ... it was just a cool show.

The Field... Richard Harris at his finest in a film loosely based on a true Irish story that was turned into a play by John B. Keane, my favourite playwright.

I was born in late 60s so grew up watching cowboy and war films - so probably Rio Lobo and Eldorado; Bridge at Remagen, Battle of the Bulge, Where Eagles Dare, The Eagle has Landed, and bit more modern - Heat and Jojo Rabbit!!!

Red October - surprisingly human cold war story.
Sink the Bismark - very human and no OMG's - a film of the times when Britons ruled their emotions.
The last Samurai - as above, historically runs along with the truth, human, respectful.
Lots of others too but you get the drift.

Aladdin the first one of Disney's animated, why because Will Smith wasn't in it.

With two notable exceptions I have enjoyed most of his films:-

1) Will Smith has opened up about “After Earth,” the 2013 sci-fi film in which his son Jaden Smith also starred, calling it the “most painful failure” of his career.
2) “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”

His film Legend - I watched this on a stalking holiday in the Highlands. My wife had gone to bed. I was sat in the Croft in the middle of nowhere. The night was a black as a Witch's hat and the only light was from the fire and the TV. I am a grown man not normally put on the back foot.
Scared the shite out of me.

Got to be We were Soldiers ,the true face of the Vietnam war ,people died ,got maimed and both sides went through hell for a "political " idea .But the survivors bonded and will always be a "Band of brothers "
On a lighter side the totally madcap "The holy Grail "totally mocks history and doesnt take it,self seriously whilst poking fun at the church .
And of course if you want to be flummoxed by twists and turns and horrified by the killings by a ??? ,The Limehouse gollum a monster of a film
