Feeling a bit bemused - Guided stalk

Any customer/client in any game MUST know the fees before hand and as a paying guest if you think you have been overcharged and there was no agreement in place before hand to such charges then why pay?

I'm not saying the deal was a good one but if you walk in with an open wallet, don't expect much change.

Having been in and out of the building industry for most of my life, I am very careful about recommending anybody for anything. I haven't known any stalking guides first-hand for some time.

Could not agree more re. BASC. Fraction more where I go South West but this is for two outings (afternoon / evening and then stupid o'clock next morning). No other fees. I think that this is excellent value for money.

MarkA,

If you want some decent stalking with tuition join BASC and book some stalking with Des in Thetford. It's about £115 for the first outing and £100 for subsequent outings booked at the same time. These costs are all inclusive (i.e. no trophy fees) They have an estate rifle. Each outing lasts for about 3 hrs and it's very relaxed and well organised.

In my opinion you were stung but you were at Fault if I was told it would be 100 or what ever for a stalk it would not matter what I shot that's all the chap wold get.If I connected he would get a nice bottle. Glad you liked Scotland never heard any Scottish guides asking for money they didn't tell you about up front. I have had lads out shitting them selves to pull the trigger wondering what that particular animal will cost.I have even had lads miss the chance because of money grabbers. Do as the best guides do and make it clear to these boys.

totally agree

I set up deer action group South to provide opportunities for newbies, youngsters and experienced stalkers without stalking.
Basically we're a syndicate with me as a benevolent despot. We provide training and opportunities. We have no interests in Trophy shooting. If someone shoots an animal then they pay £10 into our training budget . Carcasses may be bought at game dealer prices. Membership is £200/year with £100 returned if a work party day is completed. Guests pay £50 for a 2 stalk day and £20/ shot deer. All money except carcass fees go into providing facilities for the group.
At the moment we have enough trainees. But hope to provide more places as our permissions increase.
We also offer opportunities for more experienced stalkers, who are able to share their permissions, to put something back into stalking and join in the pleasure of seeing youngsters excel.
Needless to say, and maybe naively, we run on a 3 Musketeers philosophy. Ours is a shoestring budget.
But the craic is superb

I emailed a stalker off here regarding prices, to be fair I received a list of sorts back by return. However, I explained I was a complete novice and could he explain pricing in laymans terms (just couldn't understand it). I didn't get a reply so assumed the terminology was deliberately misleading. It's one stalker I shan't be booking with.
If someone comes to me at work for a price on a job then they get the finished price, what they will actually end up paying depending on what they order . Why can't stalking be like that, nice and clear. (Some are and well done) :thumb:

That's a very generous offer - thank you very much! Next time I'm heading up that way I'll certainly drop you a line.

Im not far away from Tam , if you are going over that way give me a shout too , i will fix you up with a walk out free of charge too , a date for does would suit me best

Another generous offer there ,

I've been out with both Tam and Solway and would highly recommend them both.

Cheers Dom

I'm glad this subject has come up, I'm a complete novice on stalking deer, and looking for some paid stalking to learn the ropes and give me a reason for a fac, but looking at many stalking fees leaves me more confused than when I started. No one wants to budget for £100 only to walk out £300 lighter, name and shame to stop the uneducated like myself falling for it, your lucky that you've got two offers to take you out though, that should take the sting out of it. Deer action south sounds good, something I'd like to learn more about as well as the tuition with basc.

nice one Colin & Tam very generous well done I cant speak for Tam but Colin is a real good guy and will treat you right

These prices do seem very steep, and should have been made know it you when booking.
Once bitten twice shy. I wouldn't let this put you off stalking all together, there are lots of better deals to be had.
If you had come out with me, for the stalk you discribed you would have paid £80 stalking fee, I'd have lent you rifle for free and there would have been no shot fee on a cull buck. For £50 you could have taken the venison too.
happy hunting

Can you move a little closer to the Black Country please, I would be booking within ten minutes :thumb:

I can't believe how much people charge for Deer shooting. I've got so much I am giving it away.
A lot of people in business want to take take take without any scruples at all.
How do they sleep at night?

Yes I know. Soundly on a very expensive bed!

Bloody hell yoda don't say your giving it away your inbox will be full. I think a lot has to do with where you live, for instance I'm in liverpool, to go paid stalking anywhere I'm looking at least a 3 hour drive there and back so say £50 fuel, then accomadation another £50 so before you've even stepped in a field you've got £100 and that's without food or drinks and let's face it if your not in the know you could go with the stalking guide from hell and get fleeced.

You're in probably a unique position a majority will have no option and even those that have a lease will be paying for the privilege and not much less per head I expect. Still hats off for helping others who don't for what ever reason.
