Finally the rain stopped

It seems like it’s been raining for ever, so as it stopped I thought I have got to get out, so it was off to the sheep farm, as I was heading to the back of the farm I noticed a fox crossing next doors field towards the direction I was heading. As soon as I got to the field I wanted to be in, there was this fox walking up the hedge the other side of the field from me, a quick toot on the mouth caller and it headed towards me, stopping at about 80 yards, one between the eyes put this one to sleep. Staying in this position I set the caller out with a vixen in heat call playing, within 10 minutes I had another fox just along the IMG_8872.webpdip in the field, it showed an interest in the call but just wouldn’t commit to coming out the dip, after 5 minutes or so it just disappeared, with the caller still going I looked to my left where I saw another coming across the field towards the caller, this one stopped approximately 90 yards away and took a round through the bib, the thud told me the shot was good but once again using the.223 the fox ran before piling up at the bottom of the hedge, this is becoming quite a common occurrence with the.223 lately. Everything I shoot with the.243 just drops on the spot but recently I have been less than impressed with the.223, I always said I would never have one but at the time I couldn’t get what I wanted which was a left handed.22-250, so made do with a .223 for a fox rifle, after recent events I wish I’d waited until I could get the.22-250

Well done. What bullets are you using? If your .223 is tight twist then try some 69 TMKs. Otherwise 60 grn V max.
I am just in saw 7 shot 4 . Incredibly wet underfoot and went v misty so 2 very lucky foxs as could see in thermal but not with NV. We had 2 hrs of heavy rain up to 11pm. Hence late night. .204 39 BK.

I’m sure it’s a 1:12, I’m using 55gn V max at the minute, I’m going to have to try something else, they group very well but the amount of runners I’ve had lately is ridiculous

You might need to push them a bit faster. That's the beauty of the .204 dumps all energy on target.

It funny, every one thinks you need more bullet.

It is true that not all rifles are the same, even out of the same factory.
A friend of mine had a new sako 22-250.
It was accurate but his choice of bullet was not working.
He used a 55gn bullet with so much blurb on the box I thought the box was made with bull****!
Anyway I had some 45 gn s&b fmj and 40gn nosler BT lying around and eventually got him to load some.
We got both screaming out of the barrel, I forget the figure but they grouped tight. In fact those loads came together way easier than with his choice of bullet and powder!

Anyway, believe it or not both them bullets, including the fmj killed better than his bullets!
What I'm try to say is, don't go by bullet weight and think more is better. It may just be that you simply need a completely different bullet. Of any weight.

Ditto. Ballistic tips work better the faster they go. I tried some 40gr Vmax in my 22-250 and they were absolutely explosive.
I’m currently using up some 55gr Blitzkings but on top of a very stout load, after that I will be dropping the bullet weight in favour of speed.

That head shot you showed me didn't run far did he!! 🤯☠️
No, ( that’s the bottom one in the picture) been a head shot it flipped all over, going straight up on it’s back legs and falling backwards, that’s sometimes the downside to a head shot

This one tonight got a Sierra 50gn hpbt match bullet at 131 paces rake shoulder to arse. Ran 24 paces and gave up. They are a touch tough!IMG_20231117_221046.webp
