Fine Xmas eve goose flight

Had a run out yesterday to see if there was a chance for a wee last flight before Xmas and found roughly 1000 feeding on a bit i'm on,mostly Greys with a splattering of pinks mixed through.

Lack of cover and very little wind meant hopes were not that raised but sorted a hide out after they had went back to roost and planned to be in situ for 7ish this morning.

70 deeks out and around 0800 the flight started but mostly big groups and at one point the sky was absolutely full above us,the best sight and sound ever.
First geese from memory that i was involved with was on the shore in Benbecula at 6 years old when the old fella was stationed there and that was the first time i remember smelling a cartridge, and still takes me back to that morning yet.A goose or two on the shore was always special but spending a morning with the old fella these days inland is too and these will be his last before he hits 80.

Had a very satisfying bag and packed up with skeins still trying to come in so hopefully a chance of another flight after Xmas.

Well done, I see a good few on the marsh and tip my cap as they fly over lol

Very nice, and even better to be able to return the favour by bringing your dad along. At that age, without help getting everything set up he probably wouldn't get the opportunity. Well done, a good bag too.

Nice to see the old fella still at it, and keeping well too. I remember sharing the Pigeon hide with him a few years ago, great company, and all the best for Christmas and the New year, Bill.
Hi Bill, good to hear from you and hope you and your all are fine and having a great festive.

The old fella was pretty impressed by your shooting so must have been decent,he just slates my attempts.

Cheers bud,and you couldn't have said truer words.
To try and repay him for the endless gigs he supplied us with when younger will only be a drop in the ocean.

Cheers Tim,and a lot of times i would be just as well doffing my cap instead of pulling on fresh air.
I watched to very very good wildfowlers/pigeon/game shots clean miss 4 greylag come right over them, they underestimated the distance they cover  expecting to get all 4 lol Chris and I nearly were wiped out by a brace that crossed each other as we both shot each others bird having to duck the falling pair lol
