Firearms Enquiry Officer - I totally despair of some.

She also told him that the maximum amount of propellant that he could hold was 9KG.
....
Praise the gods of hunting that I don't come under Gloucestershire.
I think there's only a single female FEO in Gloucestershire? It might be worth a phone call to Mark Palmer who heads them up to ensure the FEOs are following the guidelines, he's a good chap and always has demonstrated utmost professionalism when I've spoke to him. For all your friend knows the FEO might occasionally browse these forums, a quick way to get on her bad side surely!

Rule of thumb for FEO guesstimate could be 15kg-5kg + or - 1 but erring on the side of taking away (which seems to fit in with what some FLOs seem to want). By my reckoning that arrives at 9kg.

Give Mark a call.... Glos Police used to be a nightmare to deal with (i have a little knowledge of the legislation being retired job and I use my brother in law to confirm stuff for me - he is a shooter and FEO with a different force) However after the retirement of their 'font of little knowledge' they have become more reasonable, have stopped making up their own versions of the law and even follow HO/NPCC(ACPO) guidelines albeit occasionally with a prompt :-)

No.
It is a suggestion which now comes with a standard letter (from most Forces) with your renewal documents. It is a suggestion nothing more and nothing mandatory about it.
If you are feeling rather too chipper today - look on here for the thread that covers it to death - that should bring you back down again.

Views expressed include those willing to do it, to those who see it as another blatant attempt by Big Brother to reduce further our civil liberties.
Happily comply if they knock £20 off the price of renewal to cover the brass.

Rfd in Cambs was correct, rfd is Scotland should have completed your certificate.

FEO is the job you foist on officers you’d otherwise sack as incompetent but can’t because they’re in the union, or those incorrigibles that refuse to “ take the knee” at BLM protests.
Either way it’s not regarded as a significant embellishment on your CV. More of a thankless PITA

Lady in firearms dept ( you have applied for a very large caliber rifle what are you going to use it for ) wild boar and long range target shooting( but its big I had to look it up ) yes a 325 WSM is not common ( but you dont have anything to shoot with it on your certificate, and its big ) its only 8mm (You will have to find something to put on your certificate ) well i did put down deer stalking wild bore and target shooting ( we can allow it for target shooting ).
Sorted now but amusing.

Gotta admit I’m with met police and they been absolutely brilliant especially the short period in sorting out applications and variations. And my feo been absolutely supportive and helpful

Not sure if it's true but heard a tale of firearms inspection where the certificate holder passed one of his firearms to the FEO, who then said " is this the 12g or the .308"!!

Call should have been about where the hell you were going to find brass/ammo for it!

I'd be surprised if that were unusual. I've always had a very pleasant FEO. Some silly rules sometimes, but they knew the rules are silly. The trouble, as with much of policing, comes from the leadership.
Very, very slow in recent years though.

Not a problem the rifle is coming with 100 new cases a set of Redding loading dies and 50 bullets and in my loading room I have another 100 new cases and 200 bullets, do you think i would of purchased it if i couldn't get it to shoot.

I wonder if those FEOs that dwell amongst us have a view?

With cut backs and Covid its not been easy for anyone renewing or getting a grant for an FAC. There are some constabularies and FEO's that apply the guidelines in a rather authoritarian way it seems. However the vast majority in my opinion are helpful and within reason are willing to grant most applications. As far as Kent constabulary is concerned I have little to complain about. My own FEO I have known for many years and have a good working relationship with him.
Maintaining a good relationship by being polite and if you are correct firm in your approach helps, if you are going to start raising your voice and telling them how to do their job you will find the wait a lot longer.
