First attempt at skull prep on my first deer (CWD)

Had a go at prepping the skull of my first deer.

May have given it a bit too long of a boil, not by much though. Had to give it some extra as there were some stubborn pieces of flesh.

Only put 4 of the bottom teeth back in as the rest are very fiddly, still have them though.

I have the casing of the bullet used to take this deer so could do with some mounting ideas to incorporate it, I'm thinking this may be a bit small to go on the wall.

Few pics in different light.

What do you think?

Looks good to me….👍 not sure about incorporating the casing into the mount, I’d just fix it to a shield with a little engraved badge; species, who, when and where

How do you go about attaching the bottom jaw or do you discard it?
To be fair I’ve only done skull mounts of sika ( one for me, one for a mate and one red stag for another friend ( only just started myself - see attached photos ). I’ve used superglue for five detail- nose bones have a habit of coming off in the boil, and using plates from bushwear with a combo of ‘sticks like sh*t’ clear glue which seems to do the job nicely…..

As for leaving it on or off, I’d just go with what looks good, it looks good as it is so I’d keep the bottom jaw.

Tidy, I want to go for one of the bigger 3 next.

I used some milliput on this one instead of glue to fit the tusks back in, also filled the tusks with milliput so theyre a bit stronger.

Scratch the casing up a bit and let the skull bite it, and glue it into place.
I did it on my roe deer doe, It looks quite nice.

Friend of mine wanted to have the cartridge case with his first roe buck mount. The guy who did it used a router to put a slot into the reverse side of the mount & glued the case into it.

Next time try not to boil for too long and that way nose bones just get fragile
There was some very stubborn connective tissue on the base of the skull, I knew it was a risk but didnt mind sticking them back in place as close as I could.
