Unfortunately, this piece of legislation will do more harm than good as far as wildlife is concerned. Little point prosecuting pikeys, they just do what they want, more often than not going unhindered by under resourced and poorly motivated Police forces.

When groups of "Dog men " go out in numbers reaching over 70 and drive around in 4x4's wearing balaclava's with a total disregard for Farmers land and the law. Did they not think how it would effect the thoughts of the general public towards all people running dogs. ?? At least now when we report the same people at night, after finding on land they do not have permission to be on and smashing the gates to get there the police may take it a bit more serious ??

Indeed - they are a menace.
To be clear tho, I don’t see Romany Gypsies as the same thing as these ‘dog boys’.
We have Romany’s from time to time round here and they don’t cause any issue. Usually trying to sell chainsaw wood carvings or woven /wicker goods, but they are clean and quiet and cause no mess or fuss.

The others (whatever term you want to use) are not like that and should be seen as being a very different beast altogether.

I think you are refering to what is commonly referred to as poaching.
Until it becomes legal to shoot poachers again it's not going to lessen.

Its funny that you dont see the issue. If i call them lurcher scum, im called out because not all lurcher owners are scum, i agree, but the one that poach and trash crops are. Yet as far as i can see im the only person that see "pikey" as a derogetry slur.

Perhaps someone with more experience can tell me, just how do you train a dog to select which deer is in season at any given time, and also to identify the best animal for culling?
Any useful tips will be passed on to the gentlemen that I occasionally encounter, as their dogs don’t seem to have mastered it yet.

Seasons no. But i can train a dog to hunt muntjac and be steady to other species.

But can you distinguish the levels of stress from the scent emitted from the deer's inter digital gland?

The law is the law I guess, when abroad one can dig badgers and bay deer or pigs with a hound or several.

Working dogs gives you a great insight in how to hunt something that has stud me well now am reformed character
Still miss me lurchers & terriers anybody on here think shooters are ring fenced from losing there sport need to wake up & smell the coffee

Ok, so how would you describe the broad group of people of no fixed abode who routinely smash, steal, destroy, poach and generally bugger the place up and don’t contribute to society in any way.
Give me a name for them and I will gladly use it.

Well I did start with an air rifle, went out with a mates lurcher when ferreting. I may or may not have transgressed the boundaries. But if I did I never got caught, might have come close a time or two. But a 6" spot light in the eyes makes escape easier (apparently).

But, I abhor people who steal, dump crap in gateways, wreck our environment, bleed the state without ever contributing to it and offer zero to society, so they do get my ire!

The issue is that in trying to define the collective that does this, you end up using a word or words that define that group. There is no racism in this case because the term does not directly apply to anyone from any specific ethnic background, rather a lawless way of life. If I don’t use the P term but instead call them weasels, for example, is that really any different?

I could call them parasites, scum, etc, but that could mean any group or individual who behaves in a parasitic or scummy way, not all of those fall into the collective that we are talking about.

I don’t, specifically, but according to the farmer they were of the persuasion, that is why I used to colloquial term, rather than their names (which I don’t know).

Bumpkin? That is offensive towards the farmer who happens to be a very articulate and intelligent young man, running a large farm estate and who is heavily investing in making his farm as biodiverse and environmentally positive as he can.

What is a little concerning is that you are seemingly more concerned about my use of the term pikey than you are about the criminal damage, criminal trespass, animal cruelty and crop damage caused by the ‘gentlemen’ in question.

They are law breakers and should be treated as such.
