First teckel questions

Go on then, start throwing some goid teckel names at me, dont know if it will be a dog or a bitch yet but bitch if we get the choice...🤔

For teckel freaks Oct 1:st is a great day here in Sweden. Eager dogs may now be unleased and hunt freely. We try to go for roe deer but teckels will chase anything.

Best hunting is with one o two peole. You give the dog 30 min to slow down his chase. Then move in gradually and after another hour or two roe will come within shooting distance if wind is right etc.
The trick is to have the teckel rise the deer on it's own i.e. animals must not know there are hunters out. This means dog must be of a self assured and strong type. If hunters rise the deer(s) most often the chase will end up way out. Best when dog recoginzes the hunting area and know where to find the animals.

This hunting form is a bit out of fashion lately mainly because a full day's bag ususally is just one or two deer down but also because nowdays there are wild boar all over and can be of danger for small dogs like the teckels.

Anyway, extremly thrilling form now that you will hear the dog all the time and knowing there is a deer gradually coming closer and closer to you .
We use the Garmin dog collar and follow the case in real time on a hand display.

Have had 3 hunting teckels throuh the years but but none at present but plenty of memories.

That sounds great
Love to hear dogs singing we used to hunt a bobbery pack of lurchers scratching dog & terriers ..
wasn’t regimental but what fun
Still love the sound of the hounds
Puts the hair on back of up

Singing????, At the appropriate hour, (decided by Otto), a certain Wolfpack like choir begins ... Franz tunes up with joined together barks ... followed by Otto (the lead) howling to the night, errr, day sky, morphing into ajoining lower toned long dog Wolf songs from Arthur from a stretched out neck from the depths of the sofa, Katie the nutty collie cross lurcher sometimes deigns to join in in with a little scream or two, this is a daily event, bit like a revallei.🫣

With dachshunds, you really have to pay attention to the bloodline — there are both show lines and hunting lines. For simple tracking work, the dogs are excellent.

Half funny ... here in Sweden teckels/ dachshunds are called tax. So when someone walks a dog then 'here comes the taxman'.
A really exciting dog hunt will happen when two teckels are unleashed into a drive. Then there will music well enough. But not to unleash both at the same time or together as they may hunt the same deer or just fight. One of them is given a 5 min advantage.

Sounds like an absolutely fantastic day out. I'm jealous!

bilbo, franz and otto all sound like great teckel names :D - maybe other german names like herman, otmar, dieter and so on could also be good, or baggins (going with the bilbo theme).
Just as a happy observer i have to say that i Loooove teckels, or Gravhunde, as they are called here in Denmark. They seem like such a great combo of fierceness, personality, competence, but also good fun and character. There is something almost comedic about such a small dogs with such a big personalities and presence, but the teckels can often carry it! Best of luck @Jamie956 ! and so buy those ear protectors and some good whiskey! ,D
