If its legal and i can get paid for it, its a pest.

No I’m happily married, plus they’re too feral for me!

Success is measured by appreciating nature, being in the outdoors,

I`d place that at number 1. A hunter can witness some amazing things in the natural world and then come home elated with the day and without firing a shot.

Any animal that is interfering with the management objectives of an area of land. Hence deer are not a pest on a traditional sporting estate, but are a pest in the neighbouring forestry.

The landowner or person tasked with achieving the management objectives of the land.

Not had a .22 for well over a decade, not shot rabbits properly since I stopped keepering

Sorry but the concept is fatally flawed as 2 & 4 cannot be applied in this country!

2. Plenty want to shoot as many as they can.
4. Being able to pick deer off at range gets a bit boring. Introduce low magnification scope or iron sights to make it more challenging and force yourself to get closer.

Well exactly.

Something can be an asset to one person and a liability to someone else.

Perfectly easy to understand and entirely uncontroversial. Don’t really see what your problem is. You don’t regard deer as a pest - that’s fine, and it’s your choice. Plenty of others do, including many whose profits or livelihoods are affected by deer. They are no more wrong than you are - they just have a different perspective and are trying to optimise a different set of variables.

I wouldn’t say so. Especially for 4. You could shoot a deer with the latest gunwerks in whatever new flavour of caliber at 500 yards or you can decide to stalk into 50 with a kipplauf and a low mag scope.
