Fixed vs variable power scope?

I have a 30-06 with a fixed 7x56 Kahles (yes 7x56) it does the job out to 150 metres.
I also have a drilling with a 2.5-12x56 Zeiss lightpoint, it is always on 6x and I never have shot using the lightpoint.
Fixed scopes will do 90% of the work and are obviously more robust & cheaper.

Then 7x50 fixed power will be the most universal size . The kahles is quite close to Svaro, zaiss and S&B.
Cheers,

I have a 2nd hand Kahles 8x56 on my rifle. Looks like new and equal to the 'Big 3'. Also looked through a new 7x56 meopta and was very impressed by the quality. Think it was around £400ish

I have 2.5-10x50 on 6,5x55
3-12x50 on 222
7x50 on 308 and
4x36 on 22LR

All are IR apart from 4x36. All work fine for their intended purposes and ranges. If I was to buy another scope for a new rifle I would be looking at fixed 8x50 or 56.

Fixed vs variable scope?

I have small dilemma which scope choose fixed power one (swaro, zaiss or s&b)6x42;8x56. or cheaper brand with variable power 3-12x50.Please give some advise.

Dawid

you will get lots of personal opinion on scope and brand but unless you clarify what it is going on and what it will be used for then none of it will be much use.

I am a self confessed scope magpie.
I have used everything from a 4x32 up to a 6.5-20 variable on centrefire.
all have there place and are out of place in others.

pick one that matches your needs

what are your needs?

I have tried loads of scopes all have had their own merits but i keep returning to my 8x56 ir swaro just dont know why
just seems the best
