What do you use for flea treatment. My cocker has somehow picked up a dose and despite washing all the bedding and two treatments. Can’t seem to shift them. Oddly enough my border is absolutely flea free.

Any tips as in 20 years Iv never had a dog with fleas?

Unfortunately the treatment can take a few weeks to break the breeding cycle and you may have fleas young and adults in the floor fabrics and furniture if it suits them, If the activity has passed over a few weeks and increased, they are only on the dog to feed the high percentage are in the fabric of the house I would recommend you get the house treated, the dogs you can get gear from the vets to treat and if possible get it all done at the same time, the reason i say get the house treated is to have a residual in place to kill off any new fleas that come along from new hatches and you need to break the breeding cycle to have success, if you can, use a suitably qualified pest control person to ensure you get it right first time, very rarely is a second treatment required only if the house is minging with them. DIY pest control wont have the same effect, you will need a residual encapsulated insecticide with if possible a anti growth hormone included to give you long term control and eradicate the problem

PM me your number and ill give you a call

cheers

dont waste money on frontline or plus, fipronil does not kill fleas anymore, the plus has an insect growth regulator, this stops a life cycle change, too slow. get to the vets and get a newer treatment advion, and comfortis are two ive heard of. these should sort it in days

We used Frontline and then Frontline plus for ten years and then it just stopped being effective here...the dogs have been on tablets since. One called NexGard made by the Frontline people Merial...there is another called Bravecto(?) and we alternate between the two.

Big advantage of the tablet form is that you can treat even if out getting soaked every day...Frontline you need a dry spell.

Now down to just one dog and she only has a tablet the week or so ahead if we are going to stay in a dog friendly hotel or with friends etc. I haven't seen a flea on her for 4 years.

Bravecto for my labs, works brilliantly. Get the largest tablet, only few pounds difference in price between small and large dog. Then halve tablet, actually more like a toffee, saves you a few quid. Best regards Jess

Bloody hell Phil you’ve frightened my missus half to the death with this 😂. Thinks we’re being invaded. Haha. Il send you a PM shortly.

Thanks everyone will get some tablets. I have noticed there’s been a very large increase in hedgehogs around here of late and the border in particular has a real hatred of them.

ooooops should have said don’t show the boss :doh: they don’t understand so well:rofl::rofl::rofl:

if my missus sees i’m out chasing bed bugs, entry to the house is via the back door porch stripped down to pants and socks - clobber in a cloth bag straight into the washer - that’s ok in summer having a wander in just yer pants - in the winter it’s touch and go on the old extremities with frost an all that - keeps yer sharp and quickens the pace.

Lost all hope in front line and such these days !! I don't know if there getting immune to the different treatments ? Or its weaker ? Bring back (nuvan top ) in the orange spray cans that's what you need . 👍

Wonder what all these chemicals are doing to our dogs. Anybody tried the old derback(not sure spelling) soap, that we used to have for nits?
That seemed to work well on kids.

funny you should say that
my two teckles I now give them a natural herbal based wormer from a lady chemist / pharmacist all legit fully trained etc in Ramsgate that has no residual or in - organic chemicals and so far no worms and the dogs are better off without the worming slurry created by in -organic chemicals, I was recommended to her by a friend who has gwp that has a allergic reaction to some pet related chemicals all cured 100% - food for thought

Hmm a fully trained pharmacist should have enough knowledge to know that herbal flea treatments are no use.

As others have said, frontline (fipronil) is not as effective as it used to be. No idea why, spray a flea with it and it dies, but the spot on just doesnt do it any more. Speak to your vet, they'll know what works best in your area. Bravecto, Simparica, Nex-guard as tablets all good stuff as tablets, Advantage and others as spot on.
A house spray is vital to break the cycle as described earlier.

It was for worms not fleas, I mentioned it in relation to using in - organic chemicals not biting insects - apologies if I confused the thread

Understood. Still won't work!!

OK, I'll temper that as there is evidence for chicory based lays having a good effect on reducing sheep worm counts
