Flush Fitting Magazine Solution For Ruger American Gen 2 in .223

Just thought I'd share this in case other users are suffering from getting stabbed in the back by the standard 10 round mags in .223

My son and I both use Ruger American Gen 2 rifles in .223 for night time use and we do a lot of walking with the rifle on a sling. The standard 10 round mags were a literal pain in the back and I started looking for a flush fitting mag. Finally found a solution and managed to get my hands on a number of Dura Mag, 5 round mags (SKUURA-5X230F41188CPD) that fits flush and are super nice quality. No more getting stabbed in the back from the standard mag!

For a low cost rifle these Ruger American Gen 2 rifles shoot well, we are both able to shoot 1" groups at 100 yards from their 16.1" barrels Ranch models in 5.56 / .223 using reloads.

The problem becomes that the rifle is fitted with a thermal sight (bulky and out of balance), you are carrying shooting sticks and a thermal spotter in your hands, it becomes a game to handle all you are carrying and to walk as quietly as possible in the dark. Being able to have a flush mag makes things easier as you are trying to keep the rifle in tight to your back. The things we do for fun!

I'm just remembering the old lamping days, when the assistant carried the lamp and battery packs or I even carried a scope mounted lamp and battery packs in addition to the rifle. Modern thermal scopes sure give us some advantages that did not exist years ago. I was also younger and fitter to carry those battery packs.
