Ford Ranger Wildtrak 2L v 3.2L

Anyone got one of these and willing to offer their thoughts? Been looking at getting a S/H 2020 plate 2L with no more than 35k on the clock. There is a 3.2L version but performance wise it actually offers less but costs £5k more so I’m leaning to the 2L atm. Will be used on the road for the majority with some off road / towing thrown in as req.

My concern is I’ve heard rumours of the 2L engine being troublesome…
Not interested in opinions on other makes/models please, would only like to hear from people who have these motors if possible.

We have a 21 plate one in at the moment with the wet belt stripped, can lobes have moved on camshafts , it’s going to be an expensive repair , 3.2 would be my choice

The wet belt is only an issue if you either don't get it serviced often enough, or you go to some cowboy that uses the wrong oil or engine flush. There is a lot of second hand hysteria over this on the internet.
Wet belts are an extremely poor idea and frankly make no sense. They've definitely done it to reduce costs 🤦
I've heard of a few that have been on fords service schedule and 60k in have failed because the oil pick up gauze has blocked. Mate of mine has done more than his fair share now

I ran one as a works vehicle. It was the 3.2 V6 and it didn't have an easy life. During the time I had it it caused zero issues and only asked for copious amounts of diesel. Good truck.

I have a 21 plate 2L mostly for driving 300 miles up to Aberdeen every few weeks but also for my shooting needs. As a longer distance road vehicle I love it, very comfortable, easy to drive and doesn’t leave me feeling fatigued at the end of it, it’s also well equipped compared to other makes. The only downside is that I have to obey the lower speed limits on A roads and dual carriageways.
If I drive reasonably economically then I’m averaging 33mpg, not bad I think for the size of it, but it also has plenty of get up and go if I want to overtake.
I can’t really say what it’s like off road as I’ve only had it a few months, and the tyres on it are for roads.

Get a 3.2
On my second one now
Excellent pickups just remember and get an upgraded oil pump when the mileage gets high

Mate has a 3.2, had problems initially with ad blue warning lights, eventually sorted, but still struggling to get 25mpg🥵

What’s the situation with speed limits on Aroads and Dual Carriageways, I remember hearing something before but fully forgot about it!

Avoid anything with a wet belt. I’ve just dropped 2 grand replacing one on a ford focus. Fecking terrible design. And despite the cost, beggar all anyone wanted to do the work as it’s a real ball ache of a job.
