Forestry training fund…

Morning all, is any one on here going to make use of the forestry training fund?
I’ve just been looking through the list at what’s on offer with 100% funding, dsc1+2 are on there along with DMC.
And a lot of other useful looking courses! Various pest control and chainsaw bits, hedgelaying…all sorts.

I had a look at the application form and the only bit that confuses me was where it asks for the date and provider of your chosen course, but it doesn’t give a list of dates or specific providers for each course.

I found this table, so do you have to go onto each website to see what course they’re offering? The only one close to me isn’t showing dsc1!
Have you looked at BASC. I'm sure that they are running a couple of courses through Corinium Rifle Range in the fairly near future, and Kemble isn't a huge hop from Wiltshire. They may have other venues even closer to you.

Sounds like a great idea but I'm just wondering out of pure curiosity where the catch is.
For instance is the grant scheme intended just for those in full time employment in the forestry industry or wishing to enter the industry, or does the landowner have to sign up to some form of forestry management program.

Does anyone know if any of those approved training providers give Deer Management Course? I couldn’t find anyone but only BDS offers this course who is not registered in approved trainers list.

Tuppco in Gloucester are on the list and they have dsc1 etc and a lot of chainsaw stuff by the looks of it, and they’re in the list.

Seems to be open to any one that is looking to either get into the forestry industry or for people already in forestry/agriculture that wish to expand on their skill set.

Shame ScotGov/FLS aren't offering similar north of the border at the moment.

They did last year. The shooting organisations put out emails in March to everyone to apply or lose the funding I got chainsaw quals out of it for a week long course, while other attendees paid over a £1000 to attend!

I applied today for the DMC with BDS. I spoke with them today and they should be accredited within the next week or so.

Figured it would be great if I get it, especially since the course is £425.

Don't worry too much about filling everything in on the form like dates etc as that can be arranged if and when funding is confirmed 👍

That’s useful to know, so potentially you can just put the training providers name and address down and sort the final details later? Is the dmc better than dsc1?!

If you don't have DSC1 already then put that down. They list DSC1 as a requirement for the DMC but from the quick reading I've done this one's all about the management side rather than the actual stalking side.
