Have you tried another primer? I know the perceived wisdom is that some cartridges love them (6.5x47 for example). However, my 6 and 6.5x47 both hate them.Yes sir..,using magnum primers.
It maybe worth a try, although they seem to work well with the 140 and 120 sierras...Have you tried another primer? I know the perceived wisdom is that some cartridges love them (6.5x47 for example). However, my 6 and 6.5x47 both hate them.
The measurement to the lands is 2.761” OAL, I’ve tried 0.031” (2.73”) and 0.071 (2.69”).How far off the lands have you come?
It will definitely change the contents of your walletI’m currently sitting loading a batch meticulously measuring the OAL’s and will go from 2.74” down to 2.68” in 0.001” increments avoiding the 2.73 and 2.69 as I’ve tried those already...3 of each and will see if that changes anything.

Of course you can.

Hand press for sale here - For Sale: - K&M press and dial indicatorIt’s a shame you can’t take a hand press to the range with you. Load a batch long and then alter the OAL at the range.
Far easier to reduce the OAL than extend. Plus it allows the barrel to cool between groups.
Just a thought.
It was a typo...it is .010 steps. It will definitely change the contents of your wallet.
Seriously, 0.001 steps are nothing but cheating yourself. This sort of variation disappears in the manufacturing tolerances of the bullets and the seating process. Go in 0.010 steps or anything in this range and don‘t make yourself mad.
Solids are usually used for stalking, so they need to fit into the magazine. Further, I back off in the order of. 0.080 to 0.100 from the lands. And I want the case mouth to sit on one of the drive bands. This pretty much determines a technical OAL . And if the bloody thing won‘t shoot then that‘s that. But it usually does.
As a side note I calipered the remaining 26 bullets in the box and fox did well, out of those 26 all were the same OAL within .0005” bar 2 which were .001” longer. Not bad!It will definitely change the contents of your wallet.

Very well. Though, when I speak of OAL I hardly ever mean the absolute value of a random round. My OAL always refers to a ‚reference bullet‘ of a given length. Any other bullet of a different length should produce a cartridge longer or shorter of the same difference. As a side note I calipered the remaining 26 bullets in the box and fox did well, out of those 26 all were the same OAL within .0005” bar 2 which were .001” longer. You can't get much more mobile than one of those, used mine for my Fox loads, brilliant.I like a simple lee loader for this load up long and adjust as you go, cheap simple and works great, minimal kit to take, regards Wayne
Pretty much what my mate was finding too. Glad you got it sorted. Finally some results with the Fox 123gr’s....stuck with the 42gr of RS62 and did a test with batches of rounds changing only the seating depth in .010” increments. Looks like these fox’s do like a jump as the shorter the rounds got the more the group tightened up...the speeds are pretty consistent so looks like 2.68” OAL is the winner...
never had to mess around so much with a bullet to get it to group! Not sure if that’s a copper thing or just these!
based on the info from fox the velocity (2650fps) should be fine for way past the ranges I intend to shoot at.
now to test them on a deer or two!
