Foxes, baseball bats, and gross stupidity...

I am very surprised at the amount of virtue-signaling outrage over this non-entity of a story to be honest, even on here.

Admittedly his choice of advertising what he has done on social media was poor, likewise his choice of words, but for members to talk of him "beating to death" a fox, as if he was a Cosa Nostra enforcer? Ridiculous.

He used a suitable tool, that was to hand, to dispatch a fox that was caught up in netting / fencing. Looking at the incident objectively a baseball bat is eminently suitable for that purpose. One swift blow, distance maintained, job done.

As for those arguing that he'll be in trouble for possession of sporting equipment in his own home? I am not even sure where to begin on that one...

I rather suspect that the main drive of this story was actually more to do with perceived class issues, his position or political allegiances in relation to one of the most well known days in the Hunting calendar.

bingo, another winner. :thumb:

Bwahahaha "inappropriate extrapolation" - love it :)

Anyway he's been over shadowed by a Sheffield hunt member beating an "anti's" car with a dead fox linky

That's questionable (in my understanding - (I am not a lawyer).
If you carry a kitchen knife around then you are committing an offence, unless you are in a kitchen, at this point you have 'good reason'.
If you hang a baseball bat by the front door or keep one by the bed with the sole purpose of bashing a burglars head in, (ie it was there for that reason) then it is a weapon used in a premeditated way.

If the Hon QC had used a piece of 2x2 that was simply laying around (from when he constructed the chicken shed) or an axe (that he used to chop wood) or a knife (from the kitchen) all would be well but if he has a baseball bat laying around, the prime purpose of which is to bash in unsuspecting heads (aka he's been watching to many mafia/street gang movies) then I suspect he's in deep sh*t, even though it was a fox and not a person....

Of course he/his son/daughter/partner may be an avid baseball player and using the bat was the nearest and most reasonable choice.

Remember Tony Martin ... linky
I heard somewhere he had the baseball bat behind the door due to having received death threats as a result of his anti-brexit moves. This may of course just been posturing by him. Maybe if there is a prosecution he will have to substantiate the death threat claim?

Try not to get so intense.
I wasn't saying that, what I was saying was that he will be in hot water with the 'furry fox lovers' NOT the law.
I also mused about why he has a baseball bat in the first place - was it because he or a family member was a keen baseball player or did he have it purposed as a weapon ?
If the later and he uses it as such .... which is how the 'furry fox lovers' will view it .... he'll be in deep doodoos
I also don't think it was wrong and there is a high probability that everyone on this group shares that view, a suitable tool (as @Island said).
On the other foot I don't keep a baseball bat in my hall or bedroom because I don't play baseball so I don't have a (legitimate) reason to own one. I do play cricket and have a bat in my wardrobe though .....
