Hi all
Does anyone know of a decent quality furniture maker i need new sofas and chairs, been down the scs route twice and been shafted so now aftet quality over price.
Any ideas?

Google "multi York " they make great sofas , good quality hardwood frames and the materials used ,

Ours is 15 years old and looks great , you can also have the covers changed if you get bored of the old fabric , they have templates for the cushions etc , and are designed so you can change them

No upholsterer needed

We’ve had 2 sofas and a chair from sofology for 3 years now, no complaints at all.
We made the mistake of ScS after DFS carp ,their weird sponge material that collapses .Unfortunately our all singing all dancing reclining sofas are dying a death already. Scs suck .
So following this thread with great interest .

We bought a leather suite from Sofology and within 4 months the leather surface was wearing off in certain areas. We had an endless stream of technicians come out to 'touch it up' and it lasted for a month or so and went again. Eventually after a couple of years they agreed to replace the suite admitting there was an issue with the leather that we'd been very unlucky as this 'never happens'.

We chose a new suite - different model, different leather. When it arrived one of the reclining mechanisms was faulty and had to he replaced and then yup, you've guessed it, exactly the same thing happened with the leather within a few months. Ontop of that both recliners are now collapsing (and neither of us are real porkers!) and its only a year old!

I believe they are all made in China and IMO are cheap rubbish. However credit where its due they have offered us a full refund or another replacement suite. Needless to say we are taking the refund and have ordered a much better quality Italian suite from a reknowned local retailer albeit at twice the price!

Currently sitting on an Ercol furniture. Second hand off EBay. Recovered. Seems bomb proof.

I have a couple of Ercol arm chairs which I re-webbed myself and then got a professional to make new cushions and covers when the old ones finally gave in. The dark wood matches my old cottage well but they are not very fashionable these days but I love them. Modern furniture is generally pretty crap and a throwaway nature like so much stuff these days.

Older Ercol is now highly desireable - you could probably sell it and buy new - but I wouldnt, functional design at its best (and simplest).

No chance of it going anywhere. They have sentimental value as well as being comfy and functional and I know the frames will outlast me. I kept the two chairs when my mother died a few years ago but my sister and I could not home the large sofa which I gave to our local hospice charity shop.

We also kept a nice table as well but that went to my sisters farmhouse. I might see if I can nick that from her when I move and have some more space.

Not cheap in comparison to rubbish sold by some. as kjf says change covers easily .
Once you sit in a multi York you don't want to get up. 😊

As the son of a furniture maker I would recommend finding an artist craftsman who’s work you like and commissioning direct. Furniture retailers are pretty much of a muchness. As are any of the big name manufacturers.

Invest in an antique of tomorrow and enjoy it today.
