Furniture advice

Find someone local who restores furniture, then haunt the auctions near you. We found furniture she liked, cheap as anything. Then over to Mike the restoration chap. What you save at the auction you spend on Mike.
Evens out in the end, plus she's happy as furniture exactly what she's after. Only fly in ointment is your money is given a good hiding throughout the whole process 🤣

Trouble is youngsters today buy furniture and then change it every two or three years, we had the same 3 piece leather suite from before I was born until Mum died. Build quality nowadays is just not there unless you spend a lot with a craftsman.

I may have mentioned this before but here goes.
My grandfather had a wing-back arm chair which I loved. After passing into my dads hands, it passed to mine.
I took it to a guy in Knutsford, well known for his professional work. Inside the chair when restoring and recovering it he found a note from my grandfather to the effect of " my name is .... I made this chair, I hope the new owner enjoys it as much as I have." The chap who was restoring it knew my grandfather who was an upholsterer by profession. The chap who restored it was called Cyril Pamphilon, a name you cant forget. Sadly he has resigned and ceased trading but the armchair goes on with the note re-tacked to the inside of the frame for a later owner to find.
The chair is now approximately 80 years old but its still the confiest chair I ever sat in.

Bad news folks Multi York bought by Dfs 🤯
Good job I bought mine before 2017 , lol

You can still get covers for them , and there are still stores open, as long as they are made the same way , who cares who owns them now lol

I had to laugh at a sofa repair job that my Mrs was asked to take a look at in readiness for court action . An oldish couple had paid about 4k for a sofa and two chairs . Within weeks the sofa was giving way in the middle , the guy from the shop visited the old couple several times , at first he told them that it was because the husband was sitting on it in the wrong way , and then told the wife " I didn't really want to mention it madam , but you're just too heavy for that sofa " 😅 , the old lady must have weighed about 7 stone 😅.
The old couple got scared at the thought of going to court , so I repaired the frame , and my Mrs sorted the leather for them . They paid in tea and biscuits 😊.

And just for the record , that xxxxxxx fat Mrs of mine ate all the best biscuits 😅.

You could always try ‘Francis of Malvern’ if not too far for you. Great family firm that’s been going for years👍

Hi all
Does anyone know of a decent quality furniture maker i need new sofas and chairs, been down the scs route twice and been shafted so now aftet quality over price.
Any ideas?
Look up Chesterfield on the bay or gumtree, I bought a used one which was 100% better made/comfort/support than any new we ever had in our family. They come in sime decent colours to

Search for tetrad. They make very good sofas and chairs covered with Harris Tweed. Very comfortable but not cheap.

Sherborne, I am sat on my Grandad’s recliner they had the suite for more than ten years and it still feels like new.

My CSL or whatever it was one lasted half that and then it was getting uncomfortable long before it finally died.

Long eaton Nottingham is the home of upholstery.
Most of the big high street shops are made in the Far East with inferior foam fabric and started on a poor frameset .
I’m sat on a PF design large 2 seat full grain leather sofa, made for me in a Local factory with local uk labour although the leather is Italian 👍🏻
