GB firearms consultation launched

Entirely up to you. Here is the survey
What would be useful is any feedback early days on questions people are unsure about answering. I can raise that with firearms team who are currently producing guidance.
Completed Conor but id urge Baaac to request a better, less leading survey (q18 & 19) and wheres the question requiring forces to follow a single procedure with no interpretation by CCs or additional requirements

After five years I cannot remember who I last used 😂😂

But I do remember going back many, many years when the referees had to be of a certain standing and I had to pay my GP to agree to be a referee and the other was a postal worker friend. Let’s not go back to them days, personally think the use of referees is not required at all now given GP health reports and all the other checks they do.
Certain standing. What is this, the 50s? Do MPs meet the requirements of a certain standing ?

Lets face it, we all know there is plenty of legislation out there to stop criminality. No good if it isn't applied. In the comments, I mentioned stabbings. There is a who raft of legislation on carrying a knife in a public place or any other such item that could be used in such a manner etc. yet look at the surge knife crime in London.

Why drag knives into the debate? Don't want to make things even harder for ourselves.

Guys if you dont engage then you are basically saying you agree with whatever they ultimately decide on.
Spent the first 50 years of my life 'engaging', never changed a single thing.

Now your telling me UNLESS I engage they'll do what they like? 😂

This will only end one way - they'll do as they like and we'll do as we are told, anything else is
Is a pipe dream.

More doggy gun makers out there than legal ones now due to gang culture and drugs..

Get that in order before you start on us again

Exactly, but unfortunately it's easier to target innocent law obiding citizens incorrectly and achieve fake parliamentary ideologies than tackle hardened people that have no quarms in shooting another person.

This. The sad failings that we all know about arent of the system but the people who are administering it yet these same people are looking to introduce more regs to a system that they obviously cant cope with as it is !

It soes feel like a pointless exercise as we all onow how “it” works. Nevertheless we HAVE to respond

I can't believe this question is even being asked, the group listed has been shown to include some of the most dangerous and crooked individuals in our history, including the most prolific serial killer ever known in the UK:

5. Do you consider that at least one of the referees should be a person of certain standing in the community (e.g. of a professional background)? This could include public officials (both elected and Civil Servants or Local Government officers), members of a regulated profession (including doctors, nurses, solicitors, barristers, accountants and FCA regulated finance professionals), officers of registered shooting clubs, National Farmers’ Union representatives, landlords, land managers, vets or surveyors.

Thanks all for the comments. We have no influence on the survey format/content - we will have to make the best of it in ticking the Yes/No options for each question (or leave blank) and then using the comments box near the end of survey. Alternatively there is the option to email one's views directly to firearmsconsultations@homeoffice.gov.uk

As regards police training there are immediate plans for that, as per Minister written statement published yesterday as follows:

"One issue we are moving forward on straight away is police training. The Government has agreed to provide £500,000 in funding to support the development and rollout of a new national training package produced by the College of Policing and the National Police Chiefs Council. In due course, this training will become mandatory for police firearms licensing teams."

The full statement is well worth a read:

Also to highlight the following from the statement "The Government is also in the process of reviewing firearms licensing fees to move to full cost recovery for the police. We intend to consult on the new fees this Summer and to bring forward the necessary Statutory Instrument to make the fee changes later this year."

Some media coverage and reaction as follows:

So answering yes, yes to keep under review but no to changing to a shorter period of time. Badly worded Question as it has 2 possible opposite answers!

Yes that’s badly worded, if you tick yes it then asks what length you think certs should Be valid for (so you get the opportunity to say longer and f that’s what you think)

Like I said- I'm done having my say, never have I not got what it was I didn't want by filling out a form, it was a running joke for the first 50 years.

whilst I'm extremely passionate about everything I've ever stood up for its all gone/changed beyond the point of interest.

If you think you have any power sigually or collectively over the powers that be ideas your in for a disappointment, surveys like this are NOT there for you to have your say, they are purely there for psychological reasons pre conditioning your brain that change IS coming.

On the plus side our lifespan isn't long enough to see mentally damaging change in one lifetime... my grandad be turning in his grave now knowing just how expensive and difficult it is these days to keep your 410 in the out house and service revolver in the Welsh dresser.

Can't really see the point in answering this what you read is what we are going to get probably all done and dusted
I doff my hat in your direction fellow realist, practically extinct us.
It's all about the shock and drama these days timed perfectly to take the sting out of the tail way before the event, the deals done and now they wait for the peasants to calm down again.
