General purpose trouser - advice wanted

I have two of the flyfishing Filson longbilled caps 1 for a man 1 for a woman that I bought in the USA 25 years ago and were used maybe twice before I found ff was not for me if anyone wants/needs.
 
I've just become a convert to Fjallraven, specifically their vida pro trousers. I bought a couple of pairs in November as I was sick of trashing craghoppers trousers and swapping between different trousers /jeans for different activities.
Since getting the Vida's I pretty much live in them. They are not the heaviest trouser but for general everyday wear on a small holding and raking about in the woods they are great for me as they are comfy and move well and they have a reinforced seat and knee. The fit is spot on, there are no stretch panels but I don't reckon they need them once they are 'broken in'. I even use them for mountain biking now too. They are pretty windproof and fast drying so unless it's hammering down I don't bother with over trousers. If its really cold I just wear thermals underneath. You can nikwax/hardwax them for more water resistance. The pockets are spot on too and clearly well thought out. I can't comment on longevity as I've only had them a couple of months but they are well worth a look.

Not waterproof, but they dry very quickly. I don’t mind this as I don’t like legs being hot. If you want them more water resistant you can either use their wax - which is a faff or just use spray on Nikwax.

For tick protection I use a spray on Permethrin spray.

My first pair must be now ten plus years old and quite heavily patched - used for scruffy jobs. My main ones are five years old and worn all the time. And I have a new pair for best.

Fjallraven have a very generous leg length. They do regular and long. As Merlin said some of thier trousers have unfinished hems so you can have adjusted to your length.
They are the best trousers I've had so far. Various degrees of stretch panals depending what you want.
Scandinavians must be longer in the leg because regular length are on the long side.

The Scandanavian brands tend to do longer legs.
 
£9.99 Working-men's trousers from Lidl seem to be perfect for the job, but please keep the economy going by spending £200+ on a similar pair of trousers but with a nice logo of a deer head, rifle or antlers sawn on...!
 
I’ve had a couple of pairs of these aigle trousers for about 4 years now. They are all I use for beating, stalking, foxing, camping.

Highly recommend you give them a go. I’m still trying to wear a pair out.
every couple of months I’ll give them a wash with Nike tech/ wax just to keep on top of the water proofing

No offence taken 😂 You may have a point, but I'm a 32"waist 32" leg, and in good shape, not overweight in the slightest. I buy the trousers that fit my waist and have just found that's where they tend to fail. I don't abuse my gear but do put it to work.

Try decathlon Inverness 300 hardest wearing trousers i have come across go up one size you can trash through anything in these and are fairly water tight
 
I have also used the decathlon for beating , they are strong and comfortable but would be noisy for stalking. My best all round trousers are made by Game technical apparel , I use the Game EN302 Tecl-Wood Stealth Waterproof Trousers they are very quiet, sturdy and very comfortable and also warm.
 
Fffft tried the Fjallraven....... but at 5’7” just” & 29” inside leg ... well f$&king knee patches were a outly bl00dy ankles !

Crag hopper so far forms of decathlon .... but what little ve used of Hoggs of fife I’ve been hugely impressed with quality and price
