GERMIN XERO C2 on my stalking rig

This week I was lucky enough to win an XERO C2 through Optics Warehouse. The fact that I'm halfway through 6 weeks' of radiotherapy meant that this was a real bonus of a result - nice to have something positive happen this Spring!

I want to add the Xero to my stalking rig (well why wouldn't I?) and my mind is toying with the possibilities - mounting it atop a scope, off the underside of a rifle stock (stalking rifle so none of that picatinney opportunity) or to hang it off my viperflex sticks which would mean it being in place irregardless of the choice of rifle du jour.

I'd be confiident that some of you guys have already done this so please, share with me what has worked for you and, maybe what hasn't worked? Thanks in advance.

My rangefinder is on a retractable lanyard - only used occasionally in each session but invaluable for high seats if Im not on my usual ground, so I can establish where not to shoot - normally a perimeter of about 150-180 yards

You don't want or need a chronograph on your stalking rifle.
Use it on the range to get your data then put it away.
You will end up breaking or losing it out hunting.
You will know the speed of your ammo so you don't need it when hunting

Not sure why you would want it actually on the rifle when stalking. Much better using it at the side of the gun while at a range. However if it’s something you want I’d opt for scope mounted. All you’d need it’s a piccatinny scope rail and then a mount for the garmin.

Best of luck with the radio therapy, you’re in my thoughts.

Area419 do a bracket which works well or I’m sure someone will 3d print bits.

Glad it’s cheered you up.

I have the garmin c1 model.
Its great but I would never take it stalking , its only going to tell you the speed of the bullet you just fired. You will know this already if you used it on the range.
If you really want to use it your best bet would be to get something from a camera accessory shop with a clamp at one end and a accessory screw on the other that attaches to your garmin.
Good luck with the radiotherapy, been there myself recently.

I made a bracket from various photography bits from. Amazon which attaches to a picatinny rail for range use. I would not bother taking it out stalking however. There was a lot of filing and spray paint. Useful for the range but thats about it

Totally confused as to why, but anyway the only way I can see it being reliable would be to have a chassis style stock with MLOCK options. You could use a arca rail on the stock and the use the tripod mount to attach the gamin.

I really don't see why you would want to mount it on your stalking rifle. It only makes it more clumsy.
What do you need to know what speed your round was travelling at? Dead is dead from a deers point of view.
I use a chrony only for load development and for inputting data into ballistics apps.

Once I've done that, it becomes redundant until the next time I change a load or use a new batch of factory ammo
