Getting a large carcass onto hanging rails

Somewhat tough work to get large fallow bucks up on the hanging rail at the moment. We use a rolling stainless table to get carcass onto the larder, but lifting anything up from the table to get on the rail is hard work.

im thinking of welding up a bit of box section with a handwinch to the table so I can raise one leg up to the rail
.

Does anyone have any better ideas?

really your best putting the gambrel on the beast both rear hocks and using an electric winch . However lacking that it takes two fit persons to lift. One leg on is darn hard to get the other leg hooked up safely .
Eveyone has a different lifting weight that is too much for them - dont get to close to it or you can really hurt yourself it isn't worth it get help !

Hi, i got a little 4in1 pulley off Ebay tie strap round the waist of the biggest reds and pull em up till i can pop the gambrel through do the reverse to slip them off.

I have made this with them on my hangers "winch" pardon the pun works well.
The plasters bath is by the door and they go up up and away..... :tiphat:

Got a Yale Handy manual rachet winch. If I use a short gambrel to winch it up, it ends up the right height to transfer to a large gambrel on the rails. Once done, I can then lower it slightly and remove the original gambrel.

I have a 3/4 ton chain winch, the type of thing you would lift the engine out of a car with and a 12 foot tall hoist that attaches to my tow bar, I dont have a chiller so they get skinned as soon as they are gralloched and taken to the butchers to go into his chiller un the warmer months, in the cold months if I dont have any help available I hang them in a tree overnight with the neck about 5 feet off the ground to keep any foxes away and do the skinning the in the morning, not ideal but the best you can do at the time is the best you can do

Thanks gents, chain winch bought, should make life easier. Buck shot at the weekend was 82kg carcass weight. Reds be even worse I guess

This for single person operation

It’s what my co stalker and I have done for years when dealing with large species alone

Just make sure you buy one with stainless chain or coated

Otherwise it will turn brown real quick in a larder environment

Bought a 1 ton chain hoist (40 quid on Amazon )and was able to get a buck nicely onto the rail by use of a strap on body. Noted I won't store hoist in the chiller!

Bring on the big reds! 😄
