Afternoon, anyone know anything about stalking at Glenapp estate?
My father died recently and I have just found his journal and he had 2 fantastic years there learning about forestry before going to the dean to train as a forester .
Just interested as would like to visit and have a look around ,
The actual castle is very expensive hotel now but not sure about the estate .
he was there about 1966/67 I think .

Thanks

Private syndicate as far as I am aware

I'm sure I heard somewhere that they offer sporting breaks, both pheasants and deer stalking on the large estate...... however as the Hotel is a little on the pricey side I suspect that there are other options that don't involve winning the lottery! Might be an idea to fire in an email to see what's on offer. Always gets good reviews from a Hotel point of view, but more of a bucket list one for me I'm afraid.

Give the hotel a call, give your back story and go for a visit. Do you have any old photos of the place or interesting stories in the journal. You may be surprised!

Pretty sure the hotel was sold off a few years ago and is now run total separate to the main estate.

That's correct and actually there is a private syndicate for deer stalking. It's a fantastic place, loads of deer, beautiful scenery. The estate runs a shoot as well.

I shot there years ago, when Donny was the keeper. Been told by someone in that area, that they are having a bit of a cull at the moment, so might not be the same numbers on the ground that there was.

Nice area almost all my stalking is within 15 miles I wouldn't say a shortage of deer by any means but a lot of the areas been sold to forestry in the last 10-20 years from what I've been told

If you give them a ring and explain too them they probably will have you out and about.
