A bit of info.
The late Denis Ferranti [owned Meoble Estate] had 1001 & 1002.
My glass is 3195, which was made in 1993 and one of the 1st wide angled models using Schmitt & Bender lenses.
Thanks for that very interesting bit of information regarding 1001 & 1002. I’d heard that a couple of the first ones had gone to a friend of Col Milne who owned an estate but I didn’t know the exact serial numbers nor that the friend was a Ferranti & the estate was Meoble.
1003 was sold a few years ago by Bonhams.
I assume the first made - serial number 1000, is still with the Milne family.
The wide angled lens arrangement was introduced some time prior to mid 1988. I have on file an advertisement for the ‘New Gray & Co Wide Angle Lightweight Stalking Telescope’ dated July 1988. A year or so prior to that date the telescope was only referred to as the ‘Gray & Co Lightweight Stalking Telescope’. My own wide angle one is 3048 & I think it was made around 1990/91. Thanks for the mention of yours & the date.
I’m appreciative of any information, dates, serial numbers & anecdotes etc. relating to these telescopes.
