Ssang Yong bought Panther cars from YC Kim in 1988 and opened a factory in harlow to build the Solo II I know as I was there!!
They bought an old Range Rover and cut it into small pieces and each time a Korean went home he took a bit back with him, then they brought out the Musso which was a blatant ripoff of the RR.

Martin, Panther cars there is a blast from the past, moving on to the Musso, well if Ssan Yong took a Range Rover (P38?) back to Korea in bits once they put it all together they must of realised what a bag of Sh1t they were  because I can’t see much of it in the Musso.

The Musso in diesel form uses built under licence Mercedes Sprinter van engine gearbox and back axle, widely acknowledged as being bomb proof and good for over 300K. Coil spring back axle, torsion arm front suspension, electronic/vacuum control for the freewheeling hubs and 4X4 hi low box. The body panels were galvanised steel. Other than the coil springs, as per the Classic Range rover I don't see too much Range Rover there.

My mate brought one years ago I was very impressed with the abuse he put it though, then my brother brought one followed by myself, I got one as a second car for a stalking only vehicle. So far it have given very little problems, went straight though its MOT. Down side is it is low geared for motorway use and I only get about 28 mph out of it, but that is no doubt one and the same fault, the rear over hang is a bit too much for when tackling serious off road situations. But it is a lot of motor for little money.

The latter Rexon is a rebadged Mercedes ML, same motor for about half to a third of the price. They do a twin cab Musso if you can find one.

Land rover defender - coil springs on the back and front , all round disks , a proper chassis , proper gearbox with proper low range . Buy a landy and sell it in 4 years , unless you've wrecked it you'll get 75% of the new price back . It's fit for purpose , people claim its uncomfortable but I drive one everyday , sometimes for 6-8 hours to these people I'd advise them to man up , it's a 4x4 not a arm chair .
The Isuzu is a good pickup too ! But I've spent a few hours in one towing a mini digger - missed my landies !
There is a reason we have 4 defenders !

Most pickups with the smaller engines will do 35mpg+.

The best value for money pickup on the market at the moment is the isuzu D-max, 5 year 120,000 mile warrenty says it all really.
Ive just jumped ship from landrover after 20yrs ownership of all there models . The crunch came at £455 road tax on a disco and crap off road with the auto box .
Bought the new D-Max , After the first three week of ownership its a dream , loads of room in the tub , very friendly on juice , claim the VAT back and £225 road tax .
Time will tell but im more than happy so far .:)
