Wanted: Guided stalking in Wicklow Hills

A pal of mine lives south of Dublin and comes over to Scotland every year for a day in the hills. He’s keen to get out somewhere local too (Wicklow Hills is the obvious place).

Can anyone recommend a stalking guide in that area for me to pass on? He does not have his own rifle - but is a fit, competent shot.

Thanks

We used to go every year, not far from Blessington, but that guide doest operate any more.

These guys seem very well put together.
I should add,I know Darren who guides for them and he's an absolute gentleman.

Thank you - I’ll pass that on.

No rifle licence ? No deer hunting licence ? These are two requirements for deer hunting in Ireland. Rifle license, €40 for one year for a non resident. €80 for a 3 year licence for a resident. Deer hunting licence, free, but you require a qualification, HCAP, DSC1, Dsc2 or some national qualification.” Feral sheep”, my arse !
Too many “operators “ in this country take people out with neither.
PS, don’t get sucked into shooting “wild Irish stone sheep” or Irish Ibex. That’s usually reserved for our American neighbours. 🙄

I was at Glacial Valley with a couple of mates in November, it’s run by Jim Nolan and he offers packages which includes accommodation and meals. We were on a deal which included 1 stag and what ever hinds presented themselves. IMG_4602.webp

Both rifle and hunting license are on his website to be filled in.
Like I made clear,I have never been with the outfit I posted but have been out with one of the guides who works for him when he was guiding somewhere else and he was first class.

I have good friends who are guides out there of this is any help, probably a litttle cheaper than some of the big names, and some serious stags around his grounds, drop me a message if you want more info 👍🏼

I'm lucky in that i have swap friends who take me for a few days every year in Wicklow for the stags and everyone i talk to over there speak highly of Glacial.

Very lucky indeed, the amount of deer in those hills is trully phenominal.Driving around Blessington we saw a boat load,it was just wonderful to see.

John sika Fenton has a masses of ground in the Wicklow area and is well respected. However Just be careful who you do book with as there some that will not be quite straight.
I second that - John Fenton very good, very experienced. Heaving with Sika on his ground.

We stay 15 mins from Blessington when over and from the cottage we could probably spy every half hour on the ground in front of it and there would be a different stag there in the rut, absolutely metal numbers.
Once went down for a stag, shot him,and within 10 mins had another.Ended up with 4 within the hour.
