Gun licence fees going up again.

That will be because that certificate is not in any way connected with guns and really irrelevant to this topic.
The argument for increasing cert costs is done on a basis of cost recovery.

If that's the case it should be applied to all licencing done by the police.

If it is only applied to firearms, then this looks like targeting/discrimination against firearms owners rather than genuinely being about cost recovery.

Which is a fair thing to point out.

Chris sake you don’t have run on, it is what it , on the subject, You don’t want to pay surrender your guns simple as that, black is black white is white no point bitching and whingeing about it.

Whilst I agree, the level of service most FLD’s provide is pretty poor. They would not survive ten minutes in a commercial setting.
Most, if not all, FLD’s are underfunded, I am not blaming the staff at all
Sent application off Dec 2024.
Got a call Feb 2026.
Delayed due to my injury.
Interview first week of April.
Told the paperwork was with the office mid to late April.
Still nothing.

Got a message yesterday from another person under the same FLD who had a call early May, interview a couple of days later and already has his FAC.

Stop worrying about what everybody else is up to your case is your case don’t worry about it. Next door‘s got his gun license before yours. What’s the issue? You do your paperwork if you’ve got an inquiry hanging over your head well that’s your problem not anybody else’s.

The point is the bigger picture that firearms ownership is unfairly perceived and targeted in the UK. One of them ways to combat this is by drawing attention to it by comparisons to other areas.

I don't disagree that the current fees are affordable and am paying, or with the principle of inflation linked rises. That doesn't mean the system is fair or right. The way things are doesn't have to be the way things will be (same viewpoint taken by antis). It will get worse for firearms owners unless we stop just accepting unfair treatment.

Bit like petrol prices- I think they're unfairly high. I still need fuel but if there's a way to work to reduce prices and make things fairer/better, I'll support it.

Fair point, but the wait for processing prior to interview isn't due to that. If there is an issue with me/my application, it would be nice to have some communication about it.

What’s fair and unfair? Are two completely different things, if you’ve got guns, you need the relevant certificates, you need fuel otherwise your cow’s going nowhere, therefore you’ve got no option with the poke up and pay like it’s or lump it !

You’ve not got like it, but you’re buggered without them so it’s just a bit of poke up and shut up because there’s no other way you’re gonna get around it

Which is why I'm going through the system we're in but also want to work to make it better and fairer rather than sticking my head in the sand.

Saying increases in price are about cost recovery but only targeting certain licences when others which also have a net cost are left alone is inherently unfair unless justification is given.

That unfortunately it’s beyond our control, we haven’t gotten to like it. We’ve got a lump there’s no other option.!

Probably not a popular opinion on here but in my head that's £160+£60 doctors note.

£220 for 5 years, £44 a year.

That seems pretty good to me. A 20 box of decent .308 rounds is more than that
Based on that form of argument the recent rises in our water bills could be said to be “pretty good”.

Yeah, but they’ll just keep going and going, and 9 out of 10 forces aren’t offering a better service from the last lot of rises.

Like I said before, it is what it is, the problem is it should’ve been £50 a year for as long as I’ve had a ticket for it’s only because we’ve had it too good too long and the roses have now decided they can’t make it pay so we’ll have to pay more end of subject really there’s no way getting around it!
