Gun licence fees going up again.

I have held an FAC since June 1976. Let us say that it then cost £1. Now let us increase that by 3% a year, year on year, for fifty years. Thus:

After fifty years of increasing £1 by 3% year-on-year, the final amount is £4.38 (rounded to the nearest penny). So far so good...or not?

So at next renewal in five years time that present day £131 renewal has become already £151.86 AND THIS ASSUMES INFLATION AT 3%.

Now let us increase the renewal cost of an FAC from its present £131 by 3% year on year for ten, fifteen, twenty, twenty-five and thirty years.

RENEWAL OF AN FAC
To increase £131 by 3% year-on-year, is:
  • 10 Years: £176.08
  • 15 Years: £204.17
  • 20 Years: £236.65
  • 25 Years: £274.31
  • 30 Years: £317.94
  • 35 Years: £368.52
And then also the present cost of a grant of an FAC at £198.

GRANT OF AN FAC
To increase an initial amount of £198 by 3% year-on-year is:
  • 10 Years: £266.07
  • 15 Years: £308.45
  • 20 Years: £357.50
  • 25 Years: £414.33
  • 30 Years: £480.00
  • 35 Years: £556.63
So what will happen is that people may likely become priced out of the sport. For shotguns the figures for grant will be slightly less but even so the increase is a lot. It reminds me of the old Arab story of the payment of one grain of rice on the first square of the chess board, two grains on the next, four grains on the third. At first reading 3% doesn't seem a lot. And that is why we are easily fooled!
I’m terribly sorry to be negative, but in today’s day and age everything costs and if you’re not prepared to pay what it cost, you’ll go without it’s a simple as that!

Then lots of gun shops are life style businesses rather than making a lot of profit, RFD fees are likely to see the continued decline in them trading.

The argument for increasing cert costs is done on a basis of cost recovery.

If that's the case it should be applied to all licencing done by the police.

If it is only applied to firearms, then this looks like targeting/discrimination against firearms owners rather than genuinely being about cost recovery.

Which is a fair thing to point out.
The counter argument will be firearms licensing is given of a unique relevance to Public safety and is therfore justified. The best we may hope for - some would say demand - is improved service delivery on all fronts.

I feel like if it’s 370 quid in 35 years for a 5 year ticket that’s not bad at all 🤣

i’ll go back to my original post price goes up you either pay it or you surrender your guns really it’s as simple as that. It does not give a monkeys about driving licenses. It doesn’t give two hoots about passports guns go bang end of subject.

You’ve either got a poke up with it or give it up one or the other

indeed and year on year home office statistics show many are giving up a trend that looks to be continuing, also with an aging profile of licence holders and few youngsters replacing them.
That unfortunately is fact, but in the grand scheme of things the congregation of the SD can whatever spout whatever they wish l, about how they disagree with this they disagree with that , and we would do this, We would do that, but in the grand scheme of things it makes **** all difference because the law will do what the law wants to do not what you or I or everybody else wants them to do hands are tied

Interestingly the Met did not charge me for a replacement for a lost certificate recently

Combined with the compensation from Royal Mail for having lost the original certificate (I was sending it back for a 1-4-1) meant this variation actually made me +£75 🤣

I think that hits the nail on the head. Dyfed Powys have been pretty good with me over the years and hence I dont think the fee is unreasonable...if you get crap service then the fee doesnt represent good value for money. I do wonder how much people spend on Costa etc coffees in a year .... value for money is very personal :)
You have a choice which coffee shop you go to based on a number of factors

Why in the earth not?

Ami the only one that see’s the whole process as simple?

1- fill your ticket up with ammo.
2- get your medical sorted
3- get your renewal paperwork all filled in referees etc
4-get it submitted then go stalking if you’ve already filled the ticket up!

It’s a simple as that!

And there he is . Almost right on queue
Cant help himself……

1. Limited by flo
2. Is your gp an anti or just wants £300 ?
3. And wait, and wait and wait
4. Assuming they dont insist on you putting your guns into storage

You’ve done a fair bit of clucking on this thread. Arent you wanting to get rid of your rifles too ?
Yep you’re right?

But all I’ve said is the blatant obvious!

I just chuckle when people throw their toys out bottle the pram and there is bugger all they can do about it, it’s all hot air, I think it’s hilarious 😆

Yep I feel the his is my last ticket, still got a couple of invites to take up, still got a good couple of years yet.
