Gut unzipping tool?

I have used something similar for unzipping a deer and they cut loads of hair and make an unnecessary mess of things. As for being an equine tool, I can't understand what they might be used for. That thing would not cut a lead rope if you got tangled. Wouldn't have much faith in it to cut a seat belt either.

Sharp knife, finger over the point if worried about puncturing.
Do you enjoy splitting the ends of your fingers then? Need to break the points off mine as they are as sharp as the blade. A nice little puma or similar with a bulb on the end. You can do the whole gralloch with it.

Ahh yes, I do use a knife with fingers at the side, but I saw these and I thought “that might be handy” (I’ve cut my fingers once or twice).

Noted that they just catch fur, I shall not buy one then.

Tripe knife is indeed the best tool, but large for the pocket.

I've never had issues catching fur with the Gerber.

As others have said though, a knife and good technique will get you the same result 👍🏻

Good for tight strings on large bales.

Initial cut down near aitch bone. Insert two fingers (forefinger and index). Use them to keep innards away from knife. Insert knife point and keep knife as flat and parallel to the abdomen as possible. glide knife up to sternum. easy and doesn't catch anything inside

If you need a dedicated to tool both this from Moraknive would do the job fast, perfectly in the larder. For one a"all in one" tool good from roe to elk on on the field I'd choose the viscera. It really speed up that nasty jobb
