Had a little Visitor.

Back out again local hoping to catch out these local Fallow, my usual short journey was extended via local diversions sending traffic miles out of their way!
One single track road took me past 2 fields with me saying "stop and have a look in the way back Tim"
Back to this productive corner where 5 days ago I managed a muntjac buck, not even to my stand the xq38 was showing a muntjac shape back in the bushes so a quick shuffle right and dial in to where many have emerged never to carry on! Bucks look for new territory or other bucks come along at a different time with the one from 5 days ago not around.
For any new stalkers you see him stop and turn, so at that moment they are quite still and you have to be ready :tiphat:, after I went down to check him over (tattered ears, bashed about head no body fat) a fearless robin turned up reminding me of the days digging for the ferret or footings on an extension then the first one would be a robin looking for a feed, it was nice to stand and watch him flit around with not a care in the world.
Hung him up while I drove back down the track then over the ditch for one last look to find nothing, my mental note to stop and look in the fields on the way home!
5 fallow so called a local grass contractor and he pointed me to owns the field:old:

The years of shooting foxes (for me has been the key) as like foxes they have a route and stick quite close to it...
just like foxes apart when they just sit and watch then make a move the muntjac stop little feed and move.
When they cross an open field just like a fox they hardly stop until they get over to cover.
"what did the muntjac say when he crossed the field" The guide must have had his client looking the other way ;)

Is that the latest firmware update on the Alpex Tim ? Like that white cross which isn't on mine as I still have the original firmware on mine.

Not up dated it with the unit wanting to upgrade, the unit is about 9 months old new/s/hand just picked on x out of the menu tbh

What do you get when you use the lrf & ballistic calculator? or is it a non lrf scope?
I never use it tbh, just same method from 1972 when Dad had brought me a .177 air gun which was wrapped up in the work shop in brown paper and string.
It is a lRF Alpex zeroed at 70yds as I have not got around to my 1" at 100 which the drone 10 and the Z6 are set to.
I did ping a few marks when I first got it but soon board of that as I know the grounds also never needed it and quite often there is little time (as you know) that buck could have turn left and been facing away.
I stick to "Just fcuking get on with it" :tiphat:

I have mine zeroed at 100 yards & then when I am out I ping an object at 200 yards so I have a second aiming mark. My Zeiss scope on the 308, & the one that goes on the 6.5 when the Alpex isn’t on it, are set for 200 yards & that’s what I’ve always used for as long as I can remember. If it’s more than 200 yards, ie fallow out on a field, then I ping it as odds are I have the luxury of time on my side for a first shot or they’re going to bugger off after being shot at already & if I manage another shot it’s a bonus 👍

The fun stops when the skinning starts!!
Nope, the trick is let it rest from out the chiller, I never bother with the back leg shanks so pull the triangle flap of fur from the aitch bone cut up over and run the curved knife up and around to meet it above the knee joint cut through and leave the rest above it on the gambrel ;)
Little bit of pressure and the same round tipped knife at the edge of the meat/fur line.
I do from Reds to Muntjac hanging off a gambrel ask @Overlay who did my DSC2 witness stalks as he has been up here with me doing a muntjac while I did the Red lol

You have seen the 70yds zero lol

It’s always the forelegs and neck that are a pain for me.
Skinned warm I have found to be easiest, but I will admit to not letting one rest from the chiller before skinning, so will try that next time if I don’t do it warm.

Can achieve the same result at 200 yards with my sight set up - don’t do YouTube though so can’t upload the videos to prove it so will probably get told it never happened 😝 Shot three on the trot the other evening using the twin aiming points, first one was close so just used the main ‘+’ to aim with, second ran across in front of me but was a similar distance so again used the ‘+’. Third one legged it as the second fell over but stopped to look back & was about 220 yards so put the ‘x’ on the shoulder & down he went.
