Hanwag Tatra Top GTX

Hi all, I’m looking for a pair of the above boot but would like to try on before purchase. Rather than spend £1000 online buying the various size options and widths with the intention of returning the ones that don’t fit, does anybody know of any sellers of this boot in the Gloucestershire area? I’m happy to travel a bit. Cotswold Outdoor sell Hanwag but not this model.

Any advice appreciated

Cheers

I don't want to put you off mate but my Tatra Tops fell to bits inside 12 months, I'd not have another pair given, very comfortable but not up to hard use. I had 6 pairs of Trappers and 2 pairs of the Alaskas and loved them, I'm hard on boots and could get two and a half or three out of a pair, the Tatras were crap and the new Brenners looked worse, I had a pair for a week and sent them back. It breaks my heart as they were my favourites for 8 or 9 years.

I have the high tops , had them for a year, rough shooting + beating and found them spot on , so spot on I bought the shorter ones as well from Cotswold outdoors at south cerney
for longer distance walking , size wise I take a 10 and Hanwag 10s seem just right.

Thanks guys,

dawnrazor, that has to be the first negative review of these boots I have heard of. You clearly have experience of this brand though so I welcome it. Would you say it’s a reduction in quality over the years from this manufacturer if you have used them before? I’m toying between these and the lowa hunter extremes.

The Trappers and Alaskas I had were made in Germany and top top quality, very well finished, even the, and this might sound daft!, box and the paper they came wrapped in was good quality.
I bought the Brenners and the box was crap, the boots were made in Croatia and the finish was poor and cheap looking. There was absolutely no rigidity in the sole, I could bend the sole all the way over, nearly roll it from the toe and front side to side. I think the quality has nose dived in the last few years with the manufacturering being moved from Germany. I'd get the Trapper Tops if I was getting another pair but avoid the Tatra and Brenner. Its not just me, two or three other guys I know got the Tatra and found they just weren't up to hard daily use. I have two pairs of Altberg Stark Extreme/Gunnerside boots and they've been brilliant so far.

That doesn't surprise me. I have never come across such a comfortable and well made boot as Altberg Tethras. Had mine about two years now and they've had hard use and still clean up like new. They remain 100% waterproof and there's plenty of life left in the soles. Best quality Italian leather too. Nice to be able to buy such a great product from a British company. They have factories in Yorkshire and Italy. I've had some of their Defender high leg boots for years and can't seem to wear the things out!
