Brenner wide GTX
Yukon wide leather lined
Tatra II wide leather lined
Canyon wide GTX
Banks SF Extra GTX

Will weigh tomorrow. Thought this may be useful for anyone interested in the different heights.

My go to are the Brenners. They are too much for summer and I struggle with a high boot some days. I’m hoping to find a new summer and winter boot amongst them.

Initial thoughts are that the Tatra II will be my winter/tougher ground choice. Very comfortable. Also very rigid sole. I was hoping to like the Yukon’s more due to less joins in the leather. The Tatras just feel right.

As for the summer boot, I prefer the more flexible sole of the Canyon to the Banks. You would not believe how loud the Canyons are though. The creaking noise of the tongue is ridiculous. Literally like a really bad floor board sound. I wish I knew how to post videos on here to show how bad it is. Is there a way to get rid of the creaking?

The SF Extra fit of the banks doesn’t fit me that great. Quite a bit of a gap and loose material on the inside of my big toes. I need to try their regular fit I think. Odd how Hanwag don’t offer a wide fit in the banks. The banks are dead quiet! I’d prefer the leather lined version, but I’m not sure the tongue will be waterproof. Although I intend them to be a summer boot, I don’t want soaking wet feet from dew on grass.

happy to answer questions about them if that helps anyone

I've been using the Alaska GTX for more than 15 years. Just got a new pair and also the this one has the squeeking tongue. I keep the leather parts on it well waxed. It works to keep the noise at bay for a day or so.

Mine didn't, still going strong after 5 seasons. I also have a pair of special forces gtx, 6 seasons and still going. Worth checking out as they're sometimes on offer.

Weight per boot if of any interest. Size 10

Brenner wide GTX - 990g
Yukon wide leather lined - 963g
Tatra II wide leather lined - 850g
Canyon wide GTX - 696g
Banks SF Extra GTX - 735g

I've got a pair of Tatra Top GTX and they're the most comfortable high boot I've ever had.

The only negative I have for them is that the lovely finish is soon gone once you add some HanWag wax to them. I'd rather they were a smooth leather to start with rather than brushed.

i was looking at the tatra wide , but a bit concerned the eyelet might rub on a bunnion on my big toe as i have suffered that with other boots , generally go for boots with leather eyelets now

No Trapper top gtx? Im A long term fan of them. They are not the widest, which suits me, perhaps not you? Also thermal lined which is too warm for summer / autumn in Scotland.

Hello mate, have your Brenners survived since 2021?
Thanks,
I still have them, but don’t wear them much in all honesty. I have compartment syndrome in both shin muscles (tibialis anterior) and struggle with taller boots sometimes.

My go to have been the Banks GTX. They are still going strong. Very comfortable boots. Almost like wearing trainers they are that comfortable. The sole is flexible, which I like for most of the stalking I do in forestry and reasonably flat ground.

I rarely need to use the Tatra II. Again, they are also very comfortable, for me at least.
