Hares….yay or nay?

I was driving past a new tree plantation with deer fencing recently and watched a hare slip through the mesh. The tiny saplings had no guards !

We have hundreds of hares - planted 10's of thousands of tree - not one tree guard - no issues really - They only nip off the tops of some and they come again if decidious

It's a little sad to think that you're supposedly protecting a crop without having a clue what that crop is!
A prime example of disconnect between the countryside and the people who use it for recreation these days.

I’ll tell you whats very sad, feeling the need to post a load of judgemental nonsense based on one comment and nothing else.
Once you come down from your ivory tower allow me to give you a little perspective.
That image is a snippet of one that was sent to me by the field team to say a couple of hares in had been spotted in that area, that evening after dark i went and dealt with them, are you saying i should have put my head torch on and tried to identify what was planted? really? or should i have sent a text to ask? or should i just know?
You have no idea of the scale of where i shoot and the massive variety of whats planted, its not just a couple of fields with the same stock, that image is a minuscule proportion of just one tiny area, we are talking hundreds of thousands of caned stock, as well as more established, i can shoot an area one week and the next its been lifted and distributed to nursery’s and garden centres around the country and before you know it whips re planted.
Even though i’ve lived in the countryside all my life and shot this place getting on for 15 years i’m afraid im not a horticulturist so it would be simply impossible to be able to know, so you win the biscuit, well done.
