Having had numerous pairs of gloves over the years, I thought I had suitable kit for most conditions. However, most of my stalking has been on foot and only recently have I been doing high seat work. Sitting for hours at dawn and dusk barely moving really brought new levels of discomfort. Even when I added my gel hot pads and some of the disposable granule type, I was pretty miserable. I can take being cold but there’s something about freezing fingers. Maybe I am on my own. Anyhoo, at one of my recent Hockwold days, one of the other shooters had a pair of these mittens. Now £137 for a pair of gloves seems ludicrous I know, but what price do you put on misery?

These mittens are superb. They come with a pair of thermal liner gloves, which on their own are pretty impressive, but when coupled with the outer mitts they’re on another level. We had 7” of snowfall last night so I thought I’d go out and play in the white stuff with these on. The result is that my fingers are super toasty.
With regards to features, they have elastic wrist loops so there’s no more dropped gloves, two tapes / drawstrings on the cuffs and a front seam zip to allow you to poke your fingers out to use your binos, shoot or unwrap a toffee. Because they come with liner gloves it means that your bare fingers are never exposed. As they are a mitt, it means that hand warmers can be fed right down to the fingertips unlike gloves which only allow you to heat the palms.
In terms of sizing, the large are generally enough for even the biggest hands. I am a 10 ½ and the large mitt fitted. BUT the large inner gloves wouldn’t. Ideally, I’d have liked to mix and match the extra large inner with the large outer, but that wasn’t going to happen. So I went with the extra large all round. I can actually get a full sized shooting glove inside if conditions really worsen. Of course the weather is probably set to improve now as we approach spring, but at least I am ready for next winter.
