harkila gear

Seems a lot are moving to a layered system, I think this is something I need to adopt. As you say Glendale, it is hot when dragging and soon get hold when sitting or having you piece. I may treat myself to a Swarzi smock. Incidentally, do you have the brown (?) one or the green. The green to me looks a bit dark. Harkila stuff has been good and I can see it lasting. I don't mind investing in kit if it is a) going to work/last and b) ad value - which in this case means to improve my comfort somewhat in a given condition. I will watch this thread with interest, especially contributions from the more experience and professional stalkers.
Cheers

Hi Willis,

The layer system is something you should really try out!. I use a Lowe alpine dry flow next to skin and then a micro fleece or two depending on the weather followed by a waterproof outer shell.

In answer to your question I have a green Swazi Thar Xp. From me and me alone I found the green tahr xp works in the forest and on the hill whilst again in my opinion the brown works on the hill but not in the forest.

Please see attached photo of how the green smock works on the hill.

Regards,
Glendine.

Ok, so let's develop this a bit more. For hind stalking in wet weather, what would you go for. Trousers..I'm not convinced anything is amazing. I have had deer hunter. Trouser are warm but waterproofing was poor, maybe better now. Harkila are pretty good but their prices now are just embarrassing, so looking else where. I use norrona findkogen at the moment, which is basically a gortex shell. Never had swazi but don't trust the current marketing hype. Sitka are supposedly good but the optifade cammo isn't for me. kuiu is getting a bit of awareness but again, not sure how suited it is to our climates. Ridge line look good for their money, not tried them yet.

Kuiu Yukon is an outstanding coat, I have used one since last October, I'm ordering another in brown for this coming season. Ridgeline is dross and avoid Fortis/Country Covers as if your life depended on it, Kuiu all the way.

I've heard fortis are a "wag of bank"

Worse!!! Two years and the threat of legal action to get a refund on a "breathable" smock that must have had a bin bag liner in it!! The worst customer care service this side of the moon!! A V O I D.
