harkila or seelander

I had some sherwwod tweed breeks. The calf buckle came off after 2 hours. They went back and were replaced. The second set broke in the same place.
It is not the same quality as Harkilla stuff, granted it's not the same price but I won't be buying any more. The jackets look too heavy and cumbersome for anything other than standing around in.

I think when buying waterproof gear that the purchaser should give a little thought to the end use before splashing out great amounts of money. I have a Harkilla Kodiak jacket and trousers that cost me an arm and a leg and possibly a bit of kidney, I use them for foul weather standing shoots and for walking woodland stalking. If I anticipated crawling over hill and dale I would purchase something more robust that perhaps was a bit more disposeable (for want of a better word) and that incorporated greater outright water resistance at the expense of the technical abilities of the more expensive kit.
Am I the only one who laments the unavailabilty of the Sportchief saddlecloth jackets and overtrousers? I have one 6 years old jacket that refuses to die and my lad has been working in my 8 year old one and it too remains waterproof. I think they stopped producing them because folk where not needing to buy replacement frequently enough.

After having a couple of weeks studying jackets & the fabric /waterproof system ect, i have come to the concusion a 'name' cost you approx £100. look around on a well known site , there are better deals ' new ' for 1/2 price.;) some exellent wax cotton deals there 12g fabric, thorn proof etc etc & also gortex products, tweed too !. If you need a 'name' fair do's , dunno if it will keep you any more warm or dryer though
