Treating myself to Harkila trousers this new year.

Never used them before.

How do their trousers size?
Tight or generous

I like a bit of room and have tree trunk thighs, should I go up an inch or two waist size from actual??

The collectives advice would be appreciated.

I would look eswhere myself. I have been very disappointed with quality of recent Harkila stuff - It's generally made in china and v substandard for the money you will pay (they are owned by a large danish plc these days with emphasis on outsourcing).
Check out Fjalraven and Swedteam trousers as alternatives. The Swedteam Ridge trousers fit small but are great kit.

I have a couple of pairs of Harkila trousers and they all let water through at the knees, mibi I should have learned after buying the first pair eh :doh:I've tried the wash-in waterproofer a couple of times on them and water still gets through.

The sizing is variable at best. You really need to try them on. But..... I'd look at other makes unless they're VERY cheap.

Like Foxinmad says, they let in water around the knee areas. Size wis the two pair I have are a little on the snug side, I’d maybe try a size up, or just buy Kuiu 😂

the trousers are pretty true to size, i wear a 36 which in euro is size 52. i did buy the 54 (38) to begin and found them too big in the legs. reading all peoples comments on here re the brand shows how out of date people are with their knowledge, pretty much all brands use chinese factories whether for all or part of their manufacturing process, Harkila are no different but... if you take the pro hunter range then you will buy in confidence it is european made using goretex membrane ( there was a period where it was made in china and that did come with a few issues hence the move back to europe) 5 year warranty which is also important on expensive purchases.
also use a reputable retailer like J Hogan and Son whom also support this group and are an authorised Harkila retailer. i hope this helps a little.

I was speaking with recent bitter experience of a v expensive wildboar pro jacket bought this year which is just shockingly bad - and more than 500bucks. Had a long saga trying to return after discovered it leaked 1st rainstorm, very poor service from seller and no sense out of harkila. Other items this past year include 2 rifle slings (incl a split moose hunter type) - both have shocking detail and poor material compared to what the brand was built on. Last year my wife bought me pro hunter boots - dont even go there, v disappointing!
All that said I do see that harkila have cought wind of a backlash and seen the pub about manufacturing moving back to Europe - great and good luck to them but my advice to friends on here is to treat this brand with caution...
And yes - lots of brands have stuff made in china but no way am I paying 300 bucks for a pair of Chinese trousers!

I've just bought a pair of pro hunter style trousers from Hogg of Fife. Not sure where they're made, or how long they'll last, but at £59 I'm willing to take a chance.

That is mega cheap! I'd v bought a couple - retailers having issues shifting them then maybee ....?

I think it's a discontinued line....Rannoch suede is on the ticket. They may not be as good, only time will tell. The last 2 pairs of pro hunter I had leaked within weeks. Doubtless the Scottish weather will let me test these before too long.

It might be an idea to try Fin and Game in Kelso if that's handy for you, I don't like buying clothes via the Interweb thingymabob if I can help it, but it's definitely a better way of seeing if something a) Fits and b) is of a good quality. I tend to use Bushwear in Stirling as I'm up there fairly frequently and notice the difference in the same sizes between different makers.
