Head shot gone wrong?

Best Wishes to the stalker who took a fallow doe head shot in Hightown, nr Ringwood..Deer Emergency cleared up the mess....,shot to the back of the head and blew her face off..she died on a locals entrance, and was collected to avoid distress to the lady occupant.Of course no one will admit to doing this, the deer ran off and ended up at her garden gate Dont attempt a head shot if you are not practised at it,especially in low light conditions and over 50m and not stable in position prior to the shot AND CHECK ZERO! No to and fro on this please,if it makes people think on this subject that will be good enough....IMHO

Firstly, horrible situation and I’m glad the deer has now been dispatched.

I don’t agree however it is in some way ‘wrong’ to take headshots beyond 50m, nor that they cannot be taken at low light, both just need consideration.
Ultimately, some people shouldn't be taking headshots full stop, others are perfectly competent at doing so and can accurately assess a potential shot and know when to take it or walk away from it, not just utilising arbitrary hard limits, but general judgement.

Very easy to tar all headshots as bad based off something being wounded by one, but at the end of the day plenty are wounded due to chest shots too, as a result of poor marksmanship and other factors.

I think the point here is that you need to take responsibility for each shot you take. We've all made mistakes. But when/if you make a mess of something, you have to stick around and make sure you clean it up - especially if the something you've made a mess of is a living animal. Part of learning from your mistakes is owning them and if you don't do this you're only going to repeat them.

I got a phone call about leaving a fox in the Lucerne as the job's worth driver complained.
Mine was in the hedge from the night before, this fox had been hit in the back-end by a car and made it into the field
"But I guess it was my Fault" :tiphat:

I agree with the check zero and competence, but in all honesty I've had to deal with more leg shot deer than head shot.

The morality is lost by causing an animal inhumane suffering by negligence and not learning from it....a person without morals is not a welcome addition to our sport/industry

To be fair, plenty of chest shots run too, and a fair number end up with slow deaths.

This one seems to have died fairly fast. The big failing seems more to be failing to follow up.

Your description is a little confusing too. A proper back on head shot will either kill outright or cause so little damage the deer lives. By your description, this sounds much more like a side on shot. It’s very hard to see how a back on head shot could go through the face.
