Heads up for those looking for powders

What date did you order yours?
Friday 20th Jan. Dispatched Wednesday 25th - got it on the 26th. Perhaps I got it quick because I live in the SE of England and there are more of such deliveries to do which make them economically viable to do at a higher frequency.

Their website says:

HAZMAT Postage

All Powder, Primers and Ammunition are classed as hazardous materials and therefore must be dispatched using an authorised Hazmat carrier. This comes at an extra cost to the average courier so we charge £20.00 for Hazmat deliveries within the UK if the order is below £500. This is regardless of the quantity of product ordered and regardless of the location within the UK.

As well as these rules, Primers and Ammunition are also licensable, meaning that you must hold a Section 1 Firearms Certificate or Section 2 Shotgun Certificate (dependant on the primers or ammunition you purchase). This means that because we cannot physically check your certificate, these items must be sent to an RFD (Registered Firearms Dealer) for collection by the customer (yourself). This allows you to present a copy of your Firearms/Shotgun certificate to the RFD prior to the goods being handed over.

In order to allow us to keep delivery charges as low as possible, we only dispatch Hazmat materials on a Wednesday. This means that if an order is placed on a Thursday, it will be 6 days before dispatch takes place.

The courier will contact you on the telephone number provided at checkout in order to arrange delivery within 10 working days of order dispatch.

Primers and Ammunition are face to face only sales, £20 is cheap to achieve that via a courier.

Makes one wonder if they know what they are doing or should be doing 😊

So are you referencing the Gregorian calendar? My order and payment date is / was the same as yours.

AH!, CDSG >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Answer machine, & also no record of shipment to me at my address within Circle express system.
Wouldn’t touch them with a barge pole. Had to threaten their sister site reloading.co.uk with getting my credit card company involved after a delivery not showing for 6 months with no response to emails.

They sell kit they don’t have then ignore emails.

Genuinely best of luck.

Starting to give off a bit of a Whiff?

I've bought from both CDSG and reloading.co.uk (same company) for years - no issues.

If anyone wants VHIT-140 - they have a new shipment of 1kg ones in. Pricey - but available

Yes, but you live in the "Welsh interior" and I live in the home counties in SE England. Terms and conditions are there to see - you gotta wait up to 10 working days from dispatch and they only dispatch on a Wednesday.

And I’ve used them 3 times and been stitched up on kit they didn’t have in stock twice!

Clearly you’ve been unlucky. Don’t use them again. I have no specific loyalty to any vendor. Availability and price (inc delivery) rule the roost. CDSG’s stock levels are clearly shown, and if not in stock, then an ETA from which you can back order. Spud is the same. 🤷‍♂️

Yes, I ordered brass in January with an April delivery on the website and waited until the following October. The bloke completely ignored emails until I threatened with the credit card company. I spoke to the American distributor of the brass who confirmed that after taking my £500 no order had been placed with them and they were now out of stock. Complete sheister. 🤦‍♂️

Something else rules the roost over price and availability, that is being prepared! I have enough powder to last me for 10 years or so, primers the same. :tiphat:

Ya but you have to buy the stuff in the first place to be prepared 👍. It doesn’t materialise out of thin air. Hence the heads up on the 8lb of vhit n140 on at a great price.

Apologies if my post inconvenienced you.

I am grateful for your post, just a bit underwhelmed with dispatch.

Why would your post inconvenience me?

The 3.5kg tubs have always been a good price, last 4 I bought were £205-£215 when 1kg was £85 kg. Pretty sure they don’t comply with explosive reg’s for storage which limit homeloaders to 1 kg containers and a maximum of 2 kg on the bench. But that’s a different story..

I am just trying to warn others to avoid them or end up in a crap situation.

Not that I'm criticising it because I wish that I had bought one, but the continued availability of 8lb (3.5kg) canisters to the general public has puzzled me too. I'm sure that the maximum container size specified in the explosive regs was set at 1kg way back possibly even before the 2014 regulations. Aren't the larger canisters still legal for commercial users just not for the homeloader?

I can't say that I was aware of the 2kg regulation.

Would you be good enough to cite this please?
Might be dated - but BASC came out with a document in 2005 - copy of which happens to be on reloading.co.uk:

Basically - you cannot manufacture ammunition which uses 2kg of powder & primers at any one time. To do so requires a license to manufacture. See section 19b.

I make 50 rounds at a time - so not an issue.
