Heavy bipod..... thoughts.....

BTW as far as Bipods go I would have bought the ranger wide Bipod had I not got the standard model already.

Ranger wide Bipod

Eddie
How high do they go? That’s the only figure I can’t see. They look very good and a fair lump cheaper. I have a Dolphin 20MOA rail specific to my Bergara not sure it’s the same Dolphin

I cant tell you how high they go, I have never seen one in the flesh but my Ranger 1 is very well made.

No I cant see it on the website but I don't think I could before. I had seen on advertised on eBay that had sold out. So I gave RUAG a call, they sent the wrong one to my local gunshop. After a bit of toing and froing, I called Tier one who gave me the part number. It was then sorted quickly.
I am sure that if you give T1 a call they will sort you out. I am sure RUAG must have loads if T1 no longer stock them, because they are the most under-advertised useful bit of kit that I know of.

I’ll have a look! Cheers! I’ve emailed T1 so will see what they say too.

Just cos I always like to give an update when I’ve had some good advice.....

Bought the Tier One Bergara to Picatinny adaptor rail direct from Tier One (arrived today) and a Ranger Wide Bipod direct from Dolphin Gun Company (due next week) both really helpful folks to deal with!

I shall update a photograph when all sorted.

Thanks again for all the responses!!

I have been running an MDT Ckyepod (pronounced sky pod) on a PRS match rifle since the start of the year. Range and ease of adjustment has been outstanding. Not as quick to deploy as a Harris, but simple to operate and can accommodate a lot of shooting positions easily. Not cheap, but I would put one on a hunting rifle any day of the week based on my experience with it so far.

Late reply, given that you have bought a bipod. Did you consider a front rest instead? I quite like them though each has pros and cons.

To be fair - no. I like the aid of a bipod but purposely haven’t gone for an out and out target rifle style one and equally had the same thought process towards a front rest or bag etc. Ultimately the long range stuff with the Bergara is a bit of fun for me - been a long time since i shot at particularly long ranges and I’m keener to test and improve my own ability rather than the kit if that makes sense. I take nothing away from some of the competitive target disciplines but it just isn’t my cup of tea. Some of my favourite memories of range days were a little civvy gun club who used to rock up and fire weird and wonderful old rifles - all pretty much free hand and some to a very high standard. Far more respect for that than someone sitting at a bench with a high end rifle effectively locked in a vice. Ha ha - sorry, got on my soapbox a little there and went off on a tangent from your question.... not like me at all.... 🤦🏻😂😂

The Harris bipod still holds it's own after 25-30 odd years!

If you look at the PRS game, tripods are now a mainstay.

In theory they offer comparable if not better support than a bipod if setup correctly, but you need to be near the top end of that spend with heavy duty tripods (Really Right Stuff, think £3k odd!)

I think that’s kind of my point - taking an analogy - some bloke racing a car that he’s knocked up himself at home with a tiny budget as opposed to an F1 Driver in a motor that’s tuned within an inch of his life and has an entire team constantly examining his every move and that of his competitors in order to squeeze that last tiny second out the race. Potentially who is the better driver?

My old RQMS on the range with a tatty old LMG that he could knock the heads off pins with whilst chatting **** about the weather or someone with thousands of pounds worth of the lastest gear and all the shooting aids under the sun.

Anyway - I’m just looking to be more like my old RQ than anything actually competitive - but each to their own :) The bipod is just to save my arms ha ha

I got a B14 BMP prior to lockdown last year and got a second hand Tier One FTR Titanium for less than £200 to go on it. I got a chance to do some initial zeroing and load development prior to it all going nuts. Very solid but easily adjustable bipod and moved well on recoil on the ski feet. I'm now looking for the opportunity to get some longer range shooting in.

I also got a second hand HMR stock and will be trying that out when I get the chance.

All the best with your searching and shooting :thumb:

To be fair, I was thinking more along the lines of the Hoppes or Caldwell type, not the high end, big budget examples.

So what did you think of the Dolphin bipod have you had a chance to use it yet? Photos please.

Over the moon - all set up now and ready to go. Was waiting on a tiny bubble level appearing from the good Chinese folks of flea bay and had a busy last few weeks. So hoping for a dry day next weekend and get out on the range. Large metal box of 7.62 Ball winging its way northwards as we speak!!! 😊

I've got a B14 HMR on order and looking for rails mounts and bipods etc. To put it together. You can't beat when someone has done the homework first for! Did it all go together easily. Or anything need tweaked?
Hope your range day goes well big sparky.

All very straight forward to be fair. And, it’s actually the first rifle I’ve really put together - all my others have been bought as full packages so just needed zeroing to me and off we went. Both rails were specific to the rifle and the guy I bought the Strike Eagle from advised me on the rings so I didn’t worry about heights or anything there either. Bought myself a little torque wrench (as per one of the pics) and after some advice from a pal on here invested in a little set of bubble levels and that was that. I shall update on how zeroing goes at the weekend!! Very happy with the rifle so far - for a leftie as well the price makes it all great value for money. Joined a little Bergara FB group as well - the Yanks seem to love them and get great results.
